"I've never been unfaithful!" Sam screamed at the Woman in White as the intoxication of her spell wrapped around him. He had been faithful to Jess, always.
It wasn't until later that he really thought about the statement. Standing on the bridge Dean confronted him about his lies. The two moments had never connected until Jess was dead.
He'd never been unfaithful because he'd never been faithful in the first place. There was no other woman, but there was another life. He never told Jess about the sickle under his pillow. He'd never told her about the pentagram under the rug. He'd never answered her questions about why their apartment was always stocked with so much salt.
He'd never even told her about his father.
Jess knew that she wasn't apart of his whole life. She knew that she never would be, Sam could see it in her soft gazes. She loved him, and resigned herself to never knowing him.
It occurred to him one night as he lay looking at the shadows moving across the ceiling, altered by every car that drove by outside their cheap motel. It occurred to him that he was even more unfaithful than the men Constance killed.
At least their girlfriends had all of them once.
