"Korra, why is it steaming?"
"Shhh."
"Korra."
"Mako."
Mako had been laid up in their apartment all weekend; even after several healing sessions from Korra herself, his back was still fairly bruised and he'd managed to twist his knee when the suspect he'd been chasing had pushed him down a damn staircase. He'd been stuck in bed, on his stomach, ever since.
It was hell. A really boring hell.
But then Korra had come home ten minutes ago carrying a bag full of scary-looking seaweed and ordering him not to move.
"Korra-"
"Your back moves when you talk, now shush."
"Would you at least tell me what the hell this is?"
"It takes concentration!"
"Korra."
His girlfriend huffed angrily, finally pausing what she was doing. "Fine. Be quiet and I'll explain it."
"Fine."
"OK," she said, resuming her motions. "This is a special seaweed my old trainers would use on my muscles whenever I pulled one or whatever. It's pretty much just normal healing, but it has medicinal properties that speed things up. Especially with a little fire-"
"Are you firebending on my back?" Mako demanded, craning his neck to look at her- and instantly regretted it as the pain flared up again.
"Of course not," Korra said, pushing his head back onto the pillow. "I'm firebending near your back."
"How's that help?"
"You said you'd be quiet."
"I am. Keep explaining."
She huffed again, draping another piece of seaweed across his middle. He felt like a paper mâché dummy; Korra had covered his entire back in the stuff, pouring water over it for her "speedy healing."
"It's a real thing. Firebending healing. It cleanses your spirit and stuff."
"What's my spirit got to do with-"
"Shhh! Nothing. It also helps the seaweed heal you faster."
"I thought the seaweed was helping the water heal me faster."
"It is. The heat releases the medicine faster, thus making it extra-fast."
"Really."
"It's working, isn't it?"
Actually, it was. Now that Mako had a clue what was happening and had accordingly relaxed a little, he could feel it.
Korra must have seen the answer in his expression, because she smirked.
"Now stay still, and I'll get your knee next."
"The steam still worries me."
"Shhh."
