The hurt look in her eyes made him want to take it back. But he knew he couldn't... He knew there was no amount of apologizing that would do any good now. There was no excuse for what he had said. He simply shouldn't have said that. But the words had just left his lips, before he knew it.
"Out." Her voice was strained, weak and determined.
"Bones, please..." He tried, but he knew that it would be in vain.
"No. Out!"
Booth opened his mouth again and in response she screamed. It was loud and it pierced his heart. Only seconds later, Angela, Goodman, Hodgins and Zach were standing at the door of the office.
When Angela saw her friend, she felt an unknown anger rise inside of her. She looked at Booth and her best friend. She crossed her arms challengingly over her chest and hissed at Booth: "What the hell did you do to her???"
Goodman picked up on the tension and said: "There is no reason for our presence. Let's get back to work." He placed a hand on Hodgins his shoulder, while the other rested on Zach's shoulder, leading them away from her office.
When Booth didn't answer her, she turned around and slowly walked over to Brennan. "Bren what happened?" She saw Booth heading for the door and gritted through her teeth. "Don't even think about it! Stay. Here." Booth had never heard Angela talk like this. But he decided not to test the artist.
She returned her attention to her best friend. "Sweetie please just tell me what happened."
Brennan looked up at Booth and managed to choke out the words:"I told him that I was going away soon. But before I could tell him that I was going to Mexico to help identify the remains found at an archeological site, he just... exploded at me. He told me that he didn't want me to run away from him. He said that he should've expected it." Her voice turned sour and bitter. "After all the apple doesn't fall far from the three, now does it Booth???" She looked at Angela and whispered: He said that I wasn't any better than my parents...
Angela sighed loudly in frustration. "You know, you two are unbelievable." She got up and walked to Booth. "YOU. Should. Know. Better. Than. To. Compare. Her. To. Her. Parents!" She accentuated every word with a jab to his chest. And than she did something that Booth didn't expect.
She walked back to Brennan and pulled her in a hug. When she let go of her she said. "Forgive him, Bren."
She shook her head.
Angela repeated her request. "Forgive him, sweetie. He didn't mean it." She walked to the door. Before she closed it she gave Bren one last look. "Besides, we both now he was right. You WERE running. Don't go, sweetie... You can't run from feelings, especially love." Angela closed the door and left them alone.
It was silent for a few moments. Suddenly they both spoke up at the same time. "I'm sorry."
Booth immediately replied. "I forgive you. Do you forgive me?"
She walked over to him and hugged him. He gently rubbed circles on her back.
"So you love me huh?"
"Booth?"
"Yeah?"
"Shut up and kiss me."
And he did.
THE END!!!
