THAT BUTLER, ETERNAL
A Kuroshitsuji Fanfiction
Darkness gripped Ciel's heart. He writhed and twisted but it only constricted around him. He tries to breath but there was no air. Every fiber of his being cried out. He thrashed against the choking darkness, and when he opened his eyes he saw hell. There stood everyone he loved. His mother, his father, Madame Red, Elizabeth, even Sebastian and the servants. He shrieked but no sound came. They were rotted, putrid flesh and bone, with grim smiles. Out of reflex, he cried one name
"Sebastian!?"
"Yes, my young Lord?"
Ciel bolted upright. He glanced around the room. Sebastian loomed over him, looking quite satisfied with himself. Grell had her typical childish grin, while the reaper William simply fixed his glasses.
"I...I'm here?" the young Phantomhive asked. The last thing he had knew, Sebastian was preparing to take his soul...hadn't they ridden themselves of the last of those who he had hated so long? "There's more, isn't there?"
The demon's grin never broke.
"Sebastian, I order you to tell me."
"Actually," Sebastian smiled, a truly chilling thing, "they are all dead, sir."
"Then why am I still here?" Ciel demanded, "The contract states that once my wish is fulfilled, you take my soul. Or do you just enjoy watching me confused?"
"Never, my lord," the butler shook his head.
"You see," Grell, "Bassie did eat your soul, but he was able to convince Will to allow me to make some...editorial changes, if you will. I was able to write that you woke up...cliche, maybe, but still a nice continuation," Grell smiled his sharp-toothed grin. "Then...Sebastian, you brought me back?" Ciel reached for his eye.
"Indeed. I've found your service to be quite enjoyable. So I took the liberty of continuing our contract. I hope you don't object, sir."
"Of course not- I mean, I'm just confused. If Sebastian took my soul, how am I still alive?" Ciel asked.
"A loophole. As much as I hate to help demon scum, I do owe both of you a favor. Consider it fulfilled." William adjusted his glasses. "Come, Grelle, there's work to be done." The two Grim Reapers took their leave.
"Sebastian...you know, you didn't have to do that. More accurately, you woudln't have done that. Why?" Ciel stood up shakily.
"Any other contract would have been quite dull, I assure you. I believe this is the most enjoyment I've had in centuries." Sebastian grinned as he helped Ciel steady himself. "Breakfast, my lord?" he asked.
"That would be nice, yes. I do believe your getting sentimental on me, Sebastian," Ciel smirked. Sebastian allowed himself a small chuckle. "Never, young master," he moved to open the door.
"You are a good friend, Sebastian," Ciel admitted.
"Oh no, sir," Sebastian gave his regular diabolical smirk, "I'm just one hell of a butler."
