Clark trudged into the house and let out a little yawn. He'd just spent the last ten minutes getting the cattle back into their field after one of the fences had managed to go down. It only took him ten minutes to do because of his strength and speed. He simply ran over to a cow, picked it up and sped it back to the pasture. Not something that he enjoyed doing especially at 2 in the morning. Opening the fridge he grabbed the milk carton and was prepared to drink out of it when his mother stopped in front of him and gazed evilly back. Sighing in defeat he opened up a cupboard and grabbed a glass. His mother smiled at him and kissed his cheek before heading back up to her room. Clark wolfed down the glass of milk in the blink of an eye before he and his father headed up the stairs to get some more sleep.
The next day seemed to go much better than he'd hoped. After checking the pasture he found that his and his father's repairs had held up well. He then supersped off to school only to find that his history teacher was sick and didn't come in. That meant he wouldn't have to take exam that she'd scheduled for that day. During his lunch break he found that he'd been selected, along with a few other students, to attend a meeting in the library. He was a tad nervous about it but curious as well.
Entering the library he noticed about six or seven other students who were in one of study rooms that were adjacent to the library building itself. He began to look amongst the small crowd to see in there was anyone there that he knew when he spotted Chloe. She looked up at him and smiled. He returned it with one of his own before taking the seat next to her. He was about to ask her what was happening when the principal entered. He looked at the small assembly and smiled before taking his seat. Opening up his brief case he took out several manilla folders and set them down before himself. "Good afternoon everyone." he said in a cheery voice.
He received several "hellos" and nods from the students. "So, I guess you all are wondering why you're here today?" he asked. Again, there were a few nods that emanated from the crowd. "Well, I'm pleased to say that the reason your here is that you seven have been chosen for Smallville High's very first high school exchange program."
Clark raised an eyebrow. 'High School exchange program, eh? This should be interesting.' he thought to himself. He slowly raised his arm. The principal looked at him and nodded. "So, what's this program about?" he asked. "That's a very good question, Mr. Kent." he replied, "The program is about us having different students from all corners of the United States coming here. It's like a foreign exchange program, only much more locally, in a sense." Clark nodded as the principal continued. "Anyways, it gives different students the oppurtunity to learn about our community and to share something about there's, hence it's name. We believe that the program would be beneficial to everyone in learning about the various cultures that our country holds."
Getting up he grabbed the seven folders off his desk and began passing them to the each student. "Inside here is a picture and a little information on the students that you will be hosting." he explained as he handed the last one to Chloe. She opened hers to find a very attractive blue eyed boy staring back at her. "Robert Drake." she muttered under her breath. Clark was the only one to pick up on what she said thanks to his new enhanced hearing which had come in handy when he'd saved Pete from almost being crushed in the trunk of that car.
Opening his folder he glanced at the picture. It was a girl, about 5' 8" in height, blue eyes, with dark brown hair and two parts in the front that were solid white. He couldn't believe how beautiful she was. Glancing down a little from the photo he managed to find her name. It read Marie Ann D'acarnto (I think that's right.). But something else caught his eyes. It was the name of the school she was attending. 'Xavier's School for the Gifted Children. Westchester, New York.' he read. 'What kind of name is that?' he asked himself. Glancing over to Chloe's folder he saw the same name of the school on the folder. He also saw the picture of the boy and the fact that Chloe was completely lost in it. Thinking that it was more than just conicedence, he then looked over at the folder that the boy sitting next to him, Brad, was holding. It read the same thing. The name of the student was a little unusual as well. 'Pitor Rasputin, that's an odd name' Clark thought. He decided to bring his findings to the principal.
"Principal Meadows," he asked. The principal looked over at him. "Yes Mr. Kent?" "Sir, I was looking at my folder then happened to look at Chloe's and Brad's. Why is it that these students are from the same school?" Chloe finally shook off the folder and looked at her friend before comparing the two's information. She was as amazed as Clark on finding this out. "Well Mr. Kent, that's an easy one to explain. Because this is sort of trial run for the program we thought on choosing only one school." Principal Meadows explained. "Besides, Professor Xavier seemed very happy about sending his top students here. Now, any further questions?" The students shook their heads no. "Alright then, dismissed!" Getting up Clark knew he needed to talk to his parents about this. Once school was over he grabbed his things. Rounding a corner he looked back to make sure he wasn't followed or anyone watching. Satisfied, he supersped off towards the farm.
Meanwhile, on Flight 295 from NYC to Metropolis...
Marie D'Acanto, better know as Rogue to her friends, sat uneasily on the plane. It wasn't that she hated flying but the thought of being amongst humans, in a human school, was not a reassuring one. It wasn't that she hated them but if they ever found out what she was, well, it woudn't be good. The Professor had try'd reassuring her but it went almost unheard. That and the recent breakup with her boyfriend, made her depressed most of the time. Her friends, Kitty Pride and Jubilation Lee had taken her shopping that night and to a movie to try and take her mind off of it but it wasn't that easy. Now here she was, stuck on a plane heading to some cow town with her ex-boyfriend sitting a couple rows back. To say she was a little annoyed, well, was an understatement.
"Rogue, will you like, let go of him already?" Kitty asked. Raised in southern California the SoCal chick had the bad "airhead" demeanor that was associated with women of that part of the country. Rogue flashed her a reassuring smile before putting on a set of headphones so she could listen to her cd. Kitty went back to gossiping with Jubilation, a.k.a. Jubilee, on the farm boys at Smallville.
Sitting back from them, Pitor continued to glance up at Kitty. It was no secret at Xavier's that the big Russian had a crush on the her, though he was too shy to act on it. Kitty, on the other hand, seemed to show no interest in him.
Bobby had been reading a book or spending his time talking to his friend, John Allerdyce. Since rejoining Xavier's school, John had spent much of that time trying to regain his former friend's trust. That hadn't been a problem with Bobby or Rogue since they held no ill intentions towards him. Logan on the other hand didn't seem to trust the kid. He felt that he was nothing more than a spy for Magneto even though the Professor had said otherwise.
Kurt Wagner looked out the window. He, like the other's on the flight, had been selected for the exchange program. He seemed a little excited about it. Thanks to his image inducer he could go anywhere without anyone being afraid of his appearence. There was a silence on the flight that none of them seemed to want to break but he was the first to do so. "So, how many more hours on this plane?" he asked. "About three or four," Bobby told him. He looked up towards where Rogue was sitting before looking back to his book. The break up hadn't been the best thing in the world for either but they'd seemed to deem it necessary. He shook his head and tried to push the thought from his mind. He, like Rogue, wasn't very happy about going on this little "field trip" as Logan had determined it when they'd gotten to the airport. Sighing, he went back to reading for the remainder of the flight.
Super speed was a great thing. Clark managed to reach his home in no less than five seconds. Rushing into the kitchen he met his father and asked where his mother was. Finding out she was in the guest bedroom, he rushed upstairs. "Hi mom," he said as he entered the room. "Hi sweety." she replied back. Clark stopped and took a once over the room. His mother seemed to be cleaning the room. 'Apparently for our company.' he thought. Martha was about to put the bedspread on when Clark layed the folder down. Looking at it, she knew what it was and smiled. "Well, looks like you know about our visitor." she stated.
Clark looked a little shocked. "You knew about this?" he asked.
"Of course, were the ones that set this up," replied Jonathon. He'd headed up the stairs to see if there was anything to be done and judging from his son's haste in finding his mother, he knew what he was up too. They'd received a phone call earlier in the day to let them know that their student would be flying in later that day.
"So, you guys did this and not even tell me?" Clark continued the converation. "Yes," his mother replied. "We wanted it to be a surpirse." "Well, it worked, I'm surprised, and a little shocked too." he replied back sarcastically.
"Good, then you can help me make this bed," his mother said as she threw a pillow at him. Clark caught it and rolled his eyes before going to help her.
