When ponies think of ruling, they think of a glorified position, with a pampered life and the best of everything.
But ruling isn't all it's claimed to be.
As Princess, I've had thousands whose lives have been dependent on my wisdom and decisions. I've lost ponies over the years I've lived, slipping through my hooves and lost to Time. I know that I can't save them, as much as I'd love to, but it doesn't make the ache easier when they pass into the next world. Because, unknown to the public, I know each and every pony in my kingdom, their likes, dislikes, fears, hopes, and dreams.
But even when it hurts, I don't relinquish the crown. Why? Because I've seen the types that think they can do better.
Sombra. Discord. Chrysalis. Nightmare Moon. They would have, and did, rule without a thought for the ponies they had a duty to serve and protect. Because really, ruling is serving those who trust you to make the right choice.
And letting tyrants judge life and death over these ponies is something I cannot allow.
So I take up the crown every day, hating the burden but unwilling to let my people pay the price. And even if some complain about this or that concerning my rule, I take comfort in the knowledge that at least they have the freedom to do so.
Author's Notes
So alright! This is just a plot bunny that was floating in my head one day - just had to write it down. :D
Don't worry, I'll type up Graduation. Just as soon as I find it and skullcrusher and I go over it... Now where did I put that thing...
