I sat on the roof, admiring the stars. They sparkled and twinkled and I couldn't help but smile and reminisce a little.
"Hey, Boota, remember when Kamina first hijacked Gurren? Now that was a day," I said to the little pig mole on my shoulder.
It wasn't long until my daughter managed to find me.
"Daddy? Why are you up here?" She asked.
"Just remembering, sweetie, thinking," I smiled, sadly.
"About mommy?" She asked.
"Yes, and about others. Say did I ever tell you about your uncle, Kamina?" I asked her.
"Who?"
"My bro. We grew up together in an underground village. It was him who led the movement to the surface. Do you want to know what he told me, the day we busted out?"
"What, Daddy?"
"Your drill is going to be the drill to pierce the heavens! He told me that and I took that to heart,"
"Daddy? How come I've never met Uncle Kamina?"
"He died. It was on one of our first attempts to fight back against the spiral king. He was impaled, but even on the verge of death he continued fighting and we combined and fought one last time,"
"Wow, that's amazing," She said in awe.
"Yeah, he was a great guy. You may have noticed but we named the city after him,"
"He must be happy,"
"Yeah, unfortunately he never did get to see his prediction come true," I began to stroke my daughter's hair.
"You went to space?" She asked in wonder.
"Yeah, I was one of the first. I had to rescue mommy," I smiled again.
"Wow, you're so cool!"
"Yeah, though I've long since given up on this business. I gave my core drill to the next generation. I know that they will not let me down. So for now, it's me and you. We're going to be happy forever,"
"Daddy?"
"Yes?"
"What are those lights?"
"Those lights are stars, honey. The lights in the sky are stars," I looked up and imagined team gurren, together fighting the spiral king and the anti spiral. Oh how I longed for those days to return.
"Daddy?"
"Yes?"
"Do you miss those days?"
"More than you'll ever know. Never have I met such great people, or had so much fun. Maybe one day you'll become the head of the next team gurren, to succeed me,"
"I'd like that,"
"I would too,"
