A/N1: This was not the drabble I set out to write by a long shot. After the mid-season finale, I was all ready to try condensing my thoughts and feelings into the allotted 100-words—try being the operative word. While setting up my Christmas tree, however; a bout of nostalgia gifted me with an unexpected and beautiful sight. I was so affected, I had to share it

A/N2: Thanks to Kailene for beta-ing, and for always being there.

Summary: Sometimes when our spirits are at their lowest, the gift of a moment of peace can come from the most unexpected of places.

A Moment's Peace

Who'd have thought Christmas lights could look so beautiful when viewed through your tears? The way the light spears upward from each tiny bulb until the whole tree is awash in blinding, white lines; it's strangely mesmerizing. For a moment the pain seems to dim, as though that seemingly-endless clench of grief is no match for those glistening blades of light.

Sam sits at the table of his hotel room, his double-shot of whiskey ignored in front of him; and stares at the lighted tree outside his window. For the first time since Dean died, he feels a moment's peace.
