I walk to the building, my palms sweating. This would be my first probending match, and I'm a waterbender. I enter the locker rooms, and put my uniform. Just as I'm tying a blue ribbon around my waist, I hear the clicking of high heels.
"Mrs. Lorin, you can now enter the stadium," a tall woman in all grey says, pointing to my left. I walk down a large hallway, then turn and enter the stadium. I put on my helmet as I walk onto the 'stage' where I'll fight. I look over at my other teammates, Lee and Jordan. Lee's a firebender, Jordan's an earthbender. We have a nice variety, that not many teams can get. We're the Seal-Penguins. From the looks of it, we're fighting against the Turkey-Lions. Two firebenders and an earthbender. I hear a whistle being blown somewhere, and people start cheering. I get hit full in the stomach by an earth disc, and start sliding backwards, but stop myself before getting pushed back a zone. I bend a stream of water, then fire it full blast at the earthbender who hit me. They, unlike me, got knocked back a zone. They recoil, and I take the chance to blast more water at them. But in my excitement, I miss, and get hit with some fire. This time I'm knocked back a zone. I look at my teammates, and realize they're on the end zone, I'm in the middle zone. I bend two streams of water, and launch them at my firebender opponents. They both get knocked back a zone. Now all of their team is in the middle zone, and all except me in my team is in the end zone. Things aren't looking good. I bend more water up, then separate it into glistening droplets. The other team is distracted, trying to find out my strategy, and the rest of my team attacks. Fire blasts are launched, earth discs are fired. All of the opposing team is knocked back to the end zone. One of the firebenders teeters over the edge, stuggling to regain balance. But they fall, making a large splash in the water. Yes! We're doing good. I connect the droplets and fire them at the remaining firebender. He blocks it with fire, creating steam. Using the cover, I shoot a massive blast of water, pushing him off the edge. But before he falls, he sends a blast of fire, sending Lee off the edge. It's still two against one. I create a large sphere of water, and encase the earthbender in it for a split second, then compress it and send him stumbling backwards. He slips off the edge, but twirls and lands himself back on his feet. I grunt. This is going to be difficult, isn't it. But, luck was in our favor that day, and the second I sent a slash of water, Jordan sent an earth disc, and side by side, the earthbender couldn't hold them off. He got hit in the leg by the disc, faceplanted, then toppled off the arena. We cheer and high five, but realize the crowd isn't clapping. They're in stunned silence. I put my hands on my hips.
"Come on guys! Yay underdogs, right?" I yell. Another second of silence, then the crowd goes wild. I smile. That's more like it.
