It was a typical night with my mom driving home after getting a late night snack from the local twenty-four hour grocery store. Then it happened. It happened all too quickly - our car turning over, the loud crash, the screeching of the other car's tires, the feeling of fear, sadness, and shock all at once, the screaming... It was at that time when I finally understood what the phrase, "seeing your life flash before your eyes" meant. Then the flashing of the red and blue lights, the sirens, and the calls came about. After being pulled out of our overturned car, I caught a glimpse of my mom being pulled out as well. She did not look so good compared to myself. The doctors say that I am lucky to have only but a cut on my forehead and a slight concussion. My mom on the other hand...

"Do you have an emergency contact we can get a hold of, sweetie?" asked the nurse, suddenly pulling me out of my reverie. After being quickly examined at the scene, I was suddenly brought to the hospital along with my mom in the ambulance.

"I.. uh.. no. It's just me and her... Wait, I.. do... But c-c-an I ma-ma-make the c-c-all myself?" I reply, surprised that I can even form a coherent sentence. The nurse simply nods with a look of sympathy as she slides the phone towards me and leaves. While quickly dialing the number to his cell I realize that my hands are shaking and that there is a terrible banging against my forehead. "Please pick up, please pick up you selfish human being!" I mutter as his phone rings.

"We're sorry, but the number you have dialed is not available at the moment. Please leave a message after the beep." the automated voice on the other line said.

"Goddamnit, Chad!" I say as I ended the call and pressed redial. "Please pick up dammit! I need you..." As his phone rings again, tears start to roll down my cheeks.

"Alright, whoever is calling me at 2 in the morning is going to get it! Who the hell is this?!" he yells as I start to break down once I hear his voice.

"Ch-Ch-Chad..." is all I can make out as I start crying - the pent up fear, sadness, and shock finally reaching their breaking point.

"Sonny? Is that you?" he asks, alert clearly heard through the phone line. "What's wrong?! Where are you?! Are you okay?"

"I-I-I'm a the hos-hos-hospital. I'm-I'm f-f-fine, I guess. I kn-know that I to-told you that it's be-best to g-go our seprate wa-ways, but c-can you c-come o-ov-over? I d-don't know what t-to do..." I sob. "My m-mom's in s-sur-surgery... I ju-..."

"I'm on my way. Just stay where you are, Sonny. Everything is going to be alright." he says, cutting me off mid-sentence. The jingle of car keys is clearly heard as a garage door seems to be opening. "I'll be there in ten minutes, muh lad- Sonny." Then the line cuts off.
