3So I wasn't all that happy with how it turned about to be Unique Catfishing Ryder. I wish they had brought in a new character for the part of "Katie." So this is my spin on what if someone had answered the phone call during the shooting.
I do not own Glee. If I did Kurt would never have forgiven Blaine. And Hunter would still be plotting evil schemes with Sebastian.
(( April/2017 – Decided to edit all chapters of Catfish, rereading it I found one to many mistakes and I just cringed. ))

Chapter One: Shooting and Her Voice
-Ryder's PoV-
He hushed Kitty, as she asked him what he was doing as he made his way across the room to grab his cell phone before sinking down between Marley and Arty. He like most of his fellow glee members was crying as thoughts raced with worry about everyone. Artie began a video for everyone to have some sort of good bye in case the worst happened and he could not help but think of her. He had been so lost in anger when the truth of her lies came into light. She would not agree to meet with him and had avoided his texts for days. Finally, last night she replied and he had gotten her to agree to meet after so much pestering, only for the shooting to happen.
Was she okay? Where was she?
Right as he was leaving to meet with her the gun went off. How close had she been? All these questions raced through his mind and no matter how much anger he had towards her it was drowned out by another feeling. Love. He was in love with this girl, someone he had never meet. The months they had spent talking, everything she knew about him and that he knew about her. Not everything was a lie; he knew her favorite books, music, movies and actors. How she liked tea not coffee, despised anything in the color pink. Her ridicules love of quoting inspirational or comical sayings when he was down or frustrated. He truly cared for her, the lies just something to overcome and forgive
He had to call her. Had to know she was alive and okay. Rubbing his eyes, he looked up with a determination in his eyes. Wiping his face and sniffing he spoke aloud.
"I want to call her."
"Who?" Jake asked turning to look at him.
"Katie"
"I thought you said she was fake?"
"Look she's someone…" Staring down at his phone, Ryder went through his contacts until he got to her name. Hesitating for a moment "And I still care about her, okay?"
They share a look and Ryder gives a small smile as he pressed the dial button. "I'm calling her."
Jake gave a grunt as an annoyed expression crossed his face. He was still upset over this girl; "Katie" had lied to Ryder, his best friend. She did not want to face the outcome of her decisions. Not fully understanding why Ryder was doing this he could do nothing but let out a soft 'yeah' in reply.
Putting to his ear he started speaking softly as it rang "Come on, pick up, pick up. Pick up, please. Please."
The dial tone repeated itself a couple times until the call was picked up and a female's shaky breathing could be heard on the other end.
"Katie! Listen please tell me you are okay, that you are safe. Nothing else matters. Just tell me."
"…." It took the girl on the other end a minute but finally she softly whispered, "I'm okay Ryder. I'm safe I think."
Her voice was not like anything he imagined. Soft with a little husk to it, so beautiful though. He smiled relieved she was okay.
"Where are you?"
"I'm in the kitchen, I ran into it through the cafeteria when I heard the gunshot and screaming."
"Is anyone else hiding in there with you?" He looked towards Marley,. "Mrs. Rose the Cafeteria Lady is Marley's mom and she hasn't answered any of Marley texts."
At his words, Marley looked up with tears in her eyes and reached out to grab his arm. "She's near my mom?!"
"I know you must be scared but is there any way you could check?"
There was a squeak over the phone and the girl on the other side seemed to be rustling with something.
"Yes, hold on, I'll go look."
"Katie, be careful."
….
((Katie's? PoV))
Moving from her curled up position against the wall the girl known as 'Katie' went to her hands as knees so she could move. She had heard a phone buzzing earlier against metal, tucking her phone between her boobs she set off in a slow pace towards the area.
"Ms. Rose?"
She called out softly, as she went further back. Making sure to keep her voice low so not to alert anyone outside the kitchen.
"Mrs. Rose? Mrs. Rose, are you here?"
"Mrs. Rose?" She heard a muffled breath of another person. "Ms. Rose, I'm a friend of Ryders'. I am on the phone with him now. He is with Marley, she is worried about you. Can you let me know that you are okay so we can tell her?"
It was silent for a minute before a woman took a ragged soft sob and spoke back "I'm okay sweetheart. Is Marley okay? I was so terrified but I did not want to move. I left my phone on the counter when I went to empty the garbage."
As she crawled further Ms. Rose figure appeared, she was sitting in the corner hiding behind a metal cart for cover. She smiled at her softly "Yes Ryder is with her and they are safe and hidden."
Mrs. Rose sobbed softly and closed her eyes bring her hands to her chest, her body trembling in relief that her baby girl was alive and safe. "Thank you God."
Moving to back she crawled underneath one of the tables so she could be kept out of site. Pressing her back against the wall, she reached down to pull her phone out from between her breast.
"Ryder?"
…
"Please, please, please. Let her be okay." Marley whispered against Jake's shoulder as he held her tightly. She watched Ryder waiting for any type of news, she just need to know her mom was all right. She could not bear the thought of losing her. Ryder listened carefully, listening as Katie's slightly muffled voice called out for Mrs. Rose. After what seemed like hours another muffled voice appeared, he could not make anything out besides Katie's voice. Finally, her voice came back to the phone calling out his name that had in all this chaos, sending shills down his spine.
"Ryder?"
"Katie! Did you find her?"
"Yes, I Did. Tell Marley her mom is okay. She is safe and hiding a couple feet down from me. She didn't have her phone on her when the gunshot went off and did not want to chance going back for it." He let out a sigh of relief and turned to Marley smiling giving her a soft nod. His friend clutched onto her boyfriend as tears spilled down her check in relief over her mother safety.
"Ryder. I am sorry for lying and hurting you." She stared up at the ceiling as she spoke. "I never expected that talking with you would bring so many lies or that you would care enough about me. Once I realized you did…I did not know how to tell the truth. I was scared. I am still scared. When you found out, I thought that it was the end of it. Then when you wanted to meet… I was terrified. I'm not good enough for you and I don't deserve you."
"Can you tell me why you were scared? You and I…we have this connection Katie. Yeah I am upset about being lied to, but don't say you are not good enough. "
At that moment, Mr. Schue came back along with Brittany and two other students. Sam scrambled to his feet and raced over to hug his girlfriend. He kissed her head and thanked Mr. Schue. Ryder watched them as he waited for Katie to answer him. Ryder wanted that. He wanted to go find Katie and hold her in his arm. To show her he truly cared for her not matter what her big secret was he loved her.
"Katie I lov-"
"ALL CLEAR!"
…..
((Katie's? PoV))
"ALL CLEAR!"
"Katie I –"
Pulling her phone away from her ear, she stared for a moment before ending the call and turning it off. A tear slipped down her cheek and looking up she stared at her reflecting in the stainless steel surface. Green eyes took in the scar starting at the right side of her forehead going diagonal until it hit the bridge of her nose and turned right curving around her mouth to her chin. The second scar intertwined with the first starting at her right cheekbone and slashing across her mouth to the other side of her chin.
"I'm not good enough Ryder." She whispered to herself, "and I can't face your rejection when you finally see me."
Crawling forward to move out from her hiding spot, she got to her feet. Taking a deep breath, she made herself move. Leaving the kitchen her figure blended into the crowd of students S.W.A.T was releasing. She refused to look back, knowing if she did her eyes would watch for him. Would he hate her now for running from him again? Maybe. However, she would rather deal with his hate then disgust she faced on a daily basis coming from him.
….
((Ryder's PoV))
"Katie! Katie! Fuck!" he cursed out and tried to dial her number only to get straight to voice mail. His friends looked at him and Jake came over to press a hand to his shoulder. "She hung up and turned her phone off after the all clear went out."
"Look man, she is okay. Just forget her, she lied to you."
"I can't. There is a reason for it and I want to know why. I can't just forget about her either. She…I…" He looked up to Jake staring into his best friends eyes "I'm in love with her."
Jake looked back at his friend in disbelief.
Ryder took off from the classroom filled with his friends. Jake and Marley shouted after him along with other members of the glee club but he didn't hear them. He ran as fast as his feet could take him to the cafeteria and then through to the kitchen. Looking around wildly he yelled out for her.
"Katie!"
"Ryder?" a voice called out
Turning to it his face fell as he realized it was only Mrs. Rose. Where was she, she couldn't have gotten very far. Why wasn't she here in the kitchen like she said she was?
"She's gone?"
"Your friend you mean? She took off I tried to stop her but she didn't hear me I think."
"Mrs. Rose what did she looked like? I need to find her."
"I'm sorry honey I didn't get a good look at her."
Ryder let out a frustrated sigh and then rubbed his hand over his face and dropped into a squat. He began to curse underneath his breath. His eyes stung as he cried again, all the panic from earlier and now this over took him. Marley's mom attempted to comfort him and once her daughter appeared with her boyfriend. Jake took over as mother and daughter hugged and cried in relief at the sight of one another.
The three students and mother began to file out as well to the School parking lot. All around them relived parents of students hugged their children. There was a lot of crying still going on and as Ryder looked around he couldn't help but wonder if she was out in the crowd. But he never noticed the girl staring at him from across the way as she stood alone surrounded by families.

And Done.
It's not the best but I usually only write smut lol. Let me know what you think I want to continue this story but I'm just not sure if it will be an interesting read or not.
So, I fixed some mistakes I made as well as added more depth, it felt lacking as I read through it again. I'm going to try and keep this up. Hopefully be done with the chapters I have and work on a few chapters to add.
