True Confessions

Summary: Season 4 did not happen the way it happened on the show. What would have happened, if at Rory's graduation, Lorelai told Luke to not take Nichole on the cruise? This story is based on that question alone.

This is just a little note for everybody. Words that appear in italics are what the characters are saying to each other.

The Chilton graduation ceremony had just ended. Rory, Lorelai, and Luke stood outside of the school just talking.

Rory: (hugging Luke) Thanks for coming Luke.

Luke: No problem. I really enjoyed the ceremony. I'm proud of you. Congratulations.

Rory: Thank You. I'm going to go say hi to Grandma, Grandpa, Sookie, and Jackson.

Rory leaves and Lorelai and Luke are left alone.

Luke: A few days ago, I decided that I'm going to take a couple weeks off and go on a trip.

Lorelai: What kind of trip?

Luke: You know, a trip?

Lorelai's questioning look tells Luke she isn't convinced.

Lorelai: Luke?

Luke: What?

Lorelai: What kind?

Luke: What kind of what?

Lorelai: (exasperated) What kind of trip?

Luke: It's a cruise.

Lorelai: Are you going by yourself?

Luke: No, I'm not going by myself.

Lorelai: Whom are you going with?

Luke mutters something under his breath.

Lorelai: Sorry, I didn't quite catch that. Could you repeat it?

Luke: It's Nichole.

Lorelai: Nichole? (Says her name with a hint of disgust.)

Luke: Yes. (Few second pause) Do you think it's a bad idea?

Lorelai just shrugs her shoulders.

Luke: Lorelai?

Lorelai doesn't say anything; she just stares at her shoes.

Luke: Lorelai? (Says her name a bit louder.)

After a few more seconds of silence, Lorelai finally raises her eyes to look at Luke.

Lorelai: (after finding her voice) Huh?

Luke: Are you ok?

Lorelai: No.

Luke: What's wrong? (Looks at her with concern on her face.)

Lorelai: Don't go that cruise with Nichole.

Luke: Why?

Lorelai doesn't respond.

Luke: Lorelai, if I don't go on this cruise with Nichole, I want there to be a good reason for me not going.

Lorelai just looks at him.

Luke: Come on Lorelai, talk to me.

Lorelai: I don't want you to go because…( She trails off afraid to say what she feels inside.)

Luke: Because why?

Lorelai: Because she will never be good enough for you.

Luke: How do you know that?

Lorelai: Because I care about you. I don't want to see you get hurt.

Luke: I appreciate that. I know you care about me as your friend and…

Lorelai interrupts Luke: I don't just care about you as a friend, Luke.

Luke stares at Lorelai in disbelief for a few seconds. He shakes his head slightly to clear it.

Luke: Excuse me?

Lorelai: I don't just care about…

Luke interrupts her: I heard you the first time. What do you mean by that?

Lorelai slightly shrugs her shoulders: I guess I'm just now realizing that I like you as more than my friend.

Needless to say, Luke was stunned by her honesty. He had felt the same way for awhile now. He had always wondered whether he would ever get up the guts to tell her how he felt about her. Yet here he was listening to her tell him how she felt instead. He had never thought that she felt the same way he did. His thoughts were broken by the sound of her voice.

Lorelai: Luke? Luke, are you ok?

Luke smiles at her: Yes, I'm ok. I am definitely ok. Lorelai…

Lorelai interrupts him: Luke, I want you to think about what I just said. I mean I really, really want you to think it over. After you think about it, then you can tell me how you feel.

She starts to walk away, but Luke grabs her arm and stops her.

Luke: Lorelai, I don't need to think about what you said. I already know how I feel. (He takes a deep breath before continuing.) I'm thrilled. I feel the exact same way.

I know this is a long chapter, but it was mainly the introduction to the story. Please read and review.
