Hard Good-byes

Silver dress shoes crunched against the wet grass. The full moon reflected the silver streams of hair that swung as their owner ran. The skirt of the magnificent white dress was held to keep from falling.
The runner was a young woman in her early twenties. She was Queen Serenity, ruler of the Moon Kingdom and of the Silver Millennium, which spread through the entire Sol System. Serenity fell to her knees in an undignified heap as she entered a clearing in the thick earthling forest.
Tears ran heavily upon her face giving her blue eyes a glass-like look. "He cannot be gone, he cannot be gone," she muttered as she hugged herself and rocked.
It had only been a week ago that Serenity and her husband Hades celebrated the birth of their daughter and heir, Serena. The next day Hades had gone on a mission and he never came back. "Hello, my queen," said a wise, female voice from behind her.
The young queen ever so slowly got to her feet and turned around. Tearstains were on her face and her eyes were red from crying. Serenity recognized the newcomer immediately, for it was her closest friend, Trista. Trista was Queen and Warrior of Pluto as well as the Guardian of the Gates of Time. As guardian to the time gates, Trista could see everything that had happened since the beginning of time and all possible futures.
"Did you know that Hades would die?" Serenity asked the dark haired woman in a trembling voice.
Trista's eyes grew sad. "I knew," she said in a small, sad voice.
"And you did nothing!" shouted Serenity, bitterly.
Sighing, Trista said, "I had no choice. I cannot interfere with unless the danger to the Universe is great, not even for the happiness of my friends."
"I know," said Serenity, "It is just so hard to be without him."
The time guardian nodded in understanding. "We should return, the others will worry."
"All right."
Serenity sat in a rocking chair. In her arms she held her baby girl, Serena. "You look so much like your father," the queen said.
Serena just gazed happily at her mother with those big blue eyes of hers. "She does indeed," said Trista, standing beside Serenity.
"The pain is still there in my heart. It may never really go away."
Trista glanced at her friend, worriedly. Seeing her look, Serenity said, "The pain may never go away, but I have my friends and Serena to ease it. Perhaps, that's just as well. I do not want to forget Hades."
"You will not," promised Trista, " You will not."
Serena giggled happily.
