Why?
It was the only thing that made sense. The only thing he could ask. 'Why?'
He stood there; his hands numb and his feet frozen, staring hard and questioning at the figure that lay ahead in front of him. He asked with that gaze. Why?
"Idiot, he was trying to kill us."
He knew that and he could grasp the concept of that, but he didn't quite understand it. He tried to see the side of it that was logical and made sense, but his emotions smothered his reasoning and now here he stood, with his large, golden orbs staring at him.
The boy lay on the ground, barely even seen through the constant clashes of the pounding rain. The body of Goku's new friend covered in blood. And only a foot away from him, the golden haired man was still pointing his gun at the body, as if it would suddenly pounce and attack.
The boy's eyes were wide open. Showing the world all the fear, hatred and pain it had seen right at the last second. But Goku saw it, the moment he died, the boy looked at him and there he saw the happiness they had spent in those few blissful days. A single tear fell from his bloodshot eyes and down the lining of his jaw as he fell on the ground.
The rain had washed that teardrop…just as it was washing off Goku's own tears. His face seemed to leak water as tears fell from both corners of each of his eyes. The salt water fell from his eyes but they never even got to his chin as it blended with the water of the sky. With each tear that fell that word kept coming back to his head. Why?
The man in front of him didn't answer verbally. But through the fall of his golden hair, Goku could see violet orbs looking right at him. Calm and controlled but they seemed to burn right through him. In those eyes, he was telling all the answers, but Goku just couldn't understand.
The priest lowered his hand but that was all he did. He didn't walk towards Goku or even turn his head to the direction of Goku. Both just stood there, gazing and communicating through their eyes.
Why…
Why…
Why…
"Why…Sanzo…" Goku murmured. Liquid fell into his mouth; whether it was rain or tears he was unsure. He didn't mean for the priest to hear, but it seemed, though, he did. He narrowed his eyes and his pupils seemed to scatter, searching for the right answers to give.
Goku didn't understand it. He didn't understand why his friend tried to kill him. He didn't try to understand why they had to kill to live. Why death was so horrible. Why the hell couldn't he be given a larger brain? He felt that a slight weight would be lifted of his shoulders, if…if only he could find the answers to those questions. The right ones. Answers he could understand.
Yes, he killed youkai almost everyday of his life. He felt guilty at times but he always thought of it as a game. An exercise or something to get his mind of food. This was different. This was terrifying and something that will haunt Goku's memories right to the bitter end.
Sanzo shifted his feet and finally walked away from the dead body. Goku thought he was heading for him but he just passed by with barely an audible whisper. "Let's go."
But even when his guardian had walked a distance already, Goku didn't even budge. He just stood there, the tears now gone but that one question; that one word still circling in his head, coursing through his mind as if to mock him.
"Why?"

Ahahaha….yeah…I just hope you liked that better than the last one. I was listening to Missing by Evanescence while I was writing this. But it stopped halfway through so I don't know about the other half of this story. Oh well. Please review and tell me what you think. Give any suggestions if you want. Flames are very much welcome.
