Author's Note: Normally, in my fanfics, I like to humiliate Seifer as much as possible. But
this was just an idea that I had, and I think it actually turned out pretty well, short as it
may be. Please read and review. Selphie, a. k. a. Kirei ^.~

PROLOGUE

"I will destroy you, Squall Leonhart, if it's the last thing I do." Seifer Almasy pulled out his
most dangerous weapon, Hyperion, the blade glinting evilly just as his eyes did at that
moment.

Squall often thought of that last battle with Seifer. It was hard to live with what had
become of his rival. Pangs of guilt awoke him in the middle of the night, his wife, Rinoa,
sleeping peacefully at his side.

"You think you've won, Leonhart," Seifer had said just before he died. "But it's just the
beginning."

FORGOTTEN PROMISES

A young woman laid the bouquet of flowers down upon the grave, a tear forming in her
eye. Why couldn't she be happy now? So many years had passed...

"Do you remember, Seifer?" she said, kneeling down. "Do you remember the childish
promises we made to each other, so long ago? You've probably forgotten... but I haven't.
I live with those promises every single day. I promised that I'd never forget you. I vowed
never to love anyone else... until now."

"There was so little hope for our future together when we made those promises. We
were so young then... how can one be expected to keep the silly promise of a seventeen
year old?"

"It is only now that I realize... we could never be together. How could we ever truly love
each other? I beg of you, just free me of this curse so that I can go on with my life. I have
moved on, and I don't want you to be hurt just because of me."

"What drove you to do this? What powered you to turn to the dark side, to bring your
own life to an end? Was it me? Was it my foolish belief that our love for each other would
survive all that we put it through? I wish you were here now, Seifer, to let me know that
you forgive me for breaking my promises."

The beautiful woman's young face was now soaked with tears. She turned and walked
away, sobbing quietly.

Tears were now silently flowing down Seifer Almasy's face. "Goodbye, Rinoa."
