The Snow Cat

To me it looked as though the whole world was blanketed,

In that soft white blanked from the sky,

All was covered far and wide,

Even on roofs way up high.

As I sat on that cold blanket,

I thought of brighter days,

The warm fires of gentleness hugging you close,

But these are duller days,

When will warmth come again,

I wonder and I pray.

I am hungry and I miss the sound,

Of scurrying creatures,

All around,

A monster rumbles down below,

I can taste prey in my mouth,

Although it is empty,

For the blanket has sent them to bed.

The monster starts to rumble again,

I feel a sharp pain,

It's so cold cold,

And it's starting to rain,

Soft droplets that melt on my paws,

Drifting all around,

I hope that the drops don't get angry,

For I will slowly freeze.

I gaze up at the small stars of Silverpelt,

Twinkling at me,

A face appears among them,

And a voice inside my head,

"All will be alright,"

I think the starry face said.
