Preface: Around Five Years Later

There was a pool of blood in front of him. He gazed at it for a moment, curious about how the body ended up in his flat. A normal person would have been hyperventilating, either notifying an ambulance or – if it was their fault – apparating far, far away. Of course, neither suited his desire. Obviously, the figure was already dead, and even if someone did blame him, who would punish him? The Ministry? He had already infiltrated the ministry. The aurors? They were either all dead or trying to hunt him down already. Rose Weasley? Well, she was already in front of him. Quite victoriously actually, sitting on his pure white couch and reflecting the most impatient look that she could muster. The body was the only thing that separated them.

There was a lot of things he could have done and said, but instead he murmured, "You stained my carpet. Do you know how much my carpet costs?" She probably didn't even care, he added to himself.

"It's been a long time, Scorpius," she replied. Damn right it has, he thought to himself. He looked at her up and down as she sat upright – taking in how much she had truly grown up. Of course, she was gorgeous in Hogwarts, but her features stuck out even more now that she was the second most influential person in the ministry. Her lips were plump and red, her cheeks, which were covered in lots of freckles, seemed to have a reddish tone that made her cheekbones stand out. Her eyes, green as emeralds, pierced him. And the rest of her body…it would probably be better for him to not even indulge.

"I knew you'd come back," he said, smiling at her, but this time in wickedness. "How long has it been, Rose? Five? Six years? Dear merlin, you have really grown up, haven't you?" He looked at her, but this time in a way that he knew would tick her off. She huffed, shifting her weight uncomfortably as she adverted her eyes.

"How was I ever friends with you?" She asked, his lips curling in disgust. "Sometimes I think about it, try to remember those times. I just can't even comprehend what has changed since Hogwarts. Sometimes I try to figure out where I went wrong." He pursed his lips.

"Friends? We were far more than friends, Rose," he said, stepping over the body. Despite the fact that she didn't flinch like most people, he took notice of the caution in her eyes. "Don't you remember that? Don't you remember how long it took us to be together? When you finally fell in love with me? All these days we spent in the courtyard-" She stood up rapidly and one moment he saw her hand close to his face and then felt a stinging pain on his cheek that made him rock on his heels and an intake of breath.

"You hit me," he said, breathing heavily as he looked back at her. He reached for his wand quickly but when he turned towards her again, her wand was already in his face.

"I'll do it you know," she said. "I'll kill you. Five years ago you would've begged me to do so if you knew what you would've become." He leaned close to her, letting the wand press against the area between his eyes.

"You would never do that," he said, his voice serious. "I know you, Rose. You would never kill me."

"Yeah?" She asked, increasing the pressure of her wand. "I know at least a 100 different ways to kill you. You think I'm not capable of doing it?" Scorpius tilted his head, looking at her eyes which were blurring with tears.

"No, because I still love you," he said. "And you still love me."
