"Cato!" My name echoes across the Arena. It's her, I have to get to her. I break into the clearing just in time to see Fire Girl and Thresh sprinting away in opposite directions. There is Clove, lying in the grass. I sprint to her as fast as my legs will take me and kneel beside her, holding her for this last time.
"Stay with me! Damn it, Clove. Stay with me!" I yell in her face. It's too late though, and both of us know it. I sink towards her, my mind incapable to assess the situation at hand. It was supposed to be so easy, to win the Games. Years and years of training and all I had to do was survive. This wasn't how it was supposed to work. Katniss was supposed to be dead, Peeta soon after. Then me and Clove would just go home after the other two died. Her hand somehow finds mine and I hold on tight, as if I'm the one dying and not her. I gaze at her beautiful face, battered and bruised. She looks so beautiful, even at death's door. I remember the day that we first meet, when we were only seven. The small smile that would sometimes cross her lips and light up the room. Her eyes are glazed over, seeing nothing. "I love you," I whisper. She says nothing in reply. Then her cannon fires. My stomach drops as if I have swallowed a ton of bricks. She's gone, just like that. I kiss her softly on the lips and lay her head back in the grass. I glance at the direction that Thresh took. He did this, killed Clove. Hatred boils inside me, turning my vision red. Thresh killed Clove, my love, I don't know what will happen to me in the Arena but I know one thing. Thresh will not leave this place alive. I will see to that. For Clove, I must seek out the massive giant. I run in the direction that Thresh took, all to ready for his blood to stain the ground and his cannon to echo.
