Welcome, welcome, welcome one and all,
Please take a seat here in this amazing Great Hall.
For tonight is the start of a brand new year,
Another term, another semester to clear.
But first, new students must leave me to decide,
Which house you belong in for this joyous ride.
You see there are four houses that you must know,
If you are to stay at Hogwarts to learn and grow.
For example, in the Ravenclaw house you may be placed,
Especially if you like to count the tests you've aced,
They love their knowledge and strive for more.
But don't forget, life is more than just a test score.
Like the values Hufflepuff students have refined,
Selflessness, patience, acceptance, and being so kind.
They prove they have such magnificent hearts of gold,
And show how doing the right thing never grows old.
Or you could be a Gryffindor lion, so strong and gallant,
Fighting injustice and tyranny is definitely their talent.
Don't be turned off by the heart on their sleeve,
They'll lay down their life for what they believe.
The last house is one of such great controversy,
For the other houses think they show no mercy.
Though it is true Slytherins have great ambition,
And that they will not be forced into submission.
However, every so often they have sacrificed it all,
To fight when their backs were against the wall.
As you can see, each house seeks these certain traits,
So ask yourself; Which of my own qualities dominates?
Do you believe you are witty, generous, brave, or sly?
For which of these houses do you think you qualify?
If you are unsure, don't worry one little bit;
I will be able to see exactly where you fit.
Many years I have done my job with care,
So place me on your head and listen if you dare.
Do not fear, I will tell you which house you need,
To gain some knowledge and help you succeed!
