Professor Oak's Journal Entry Number 297 – Bat Pokemon Facts

Golbat and Crobat mate during usually during the summer. Most of the time two specimen of the same stage will end up together.

The male uses a mating plug to ensure others don't try to attract the female they mated with.

After nearly a year, the female gives birth to a single Zubat pup.

The young Zubat feeds off their mother's milk for up to 2 years, being cradled in their mother's wing and tail membranes during this time. Before weaning young Zubat will start to accept blood meals given by their mother within a few months.

Many pups are often raised in maternity colonies.

The mating rituals of the other bat Pokemon lines are very similar but take place at different times.

Swoobat and Noivern mate during the fall and their pregnancies last until January or February. The Woobat and Noibat pups feed on their mother's milk for up to five months.

Noivern are large enough that they can carry their pups all the time.

Often mother bat Pokemon will assist each other in birthing their pups.

Within months, the pups' wings develop and they learn to fly.

The Zubat line has a diet of both the blood of other vertebrate Pokemon and whole Bug-type Pokemon.

They are able to eat Bug/Poison-types without any problem because they themselves are part-Poison-type.

The Woobat and Noibat lines, as fruit bats, feed primarily on fruit, including berries. In captivity they will accept Poke Chow as well.

The dung of bat Pokemon, a form of guano, is often mined from caves for use as fertilizer, as it is rich in nitrates.

Trainers who own bat Pokemon take advantage of this and sell their bat Pokemon's guano as fertilizer to other people in order to raise money outside of winning Pokemon battles.
