Chapter 1: Harris's P.O.V
The blood is rushing to my head.
Why?
Because I'm hanging upside down.
Why?
Our maid, Maudie, is a few inches below me; she has a key in the side pocket of her apron. Does this key have anything to do with my brothers or me? No, not really, but it unlocks a door in the castle that's been put "off limits" by my mother for nearly three days now. Obviously, fourteen years of raising the infamous DunBroch triplets has taught her nothing about the words "off limits". If it had, she'd know those words usually just don't apply to me or my brothers.
So here I am. My brother Haymish is holding my ankles, sitting in the rafters of our kitchen while I try to grab the key from Maudie's pocket. Hoping I'm not dropped or discovered. My fingers are stumbling as I reach into the worn white pocket of the apron. I'm usually better at this sort of thing, really I am, but at the moment all I can think is: please, please Maudie, don't turn, don't turn, keep your face to the oven, please.
My fingers clutch the key, then with a quick nod to Haymish, I'm pulled up into the rafters. All before Maudie is finished checking on the bread in the oven.
