This is my first fic so don't be too harsh . (pretty please with a cherry on top). If you're confused about anything, the Author's Note at the end will explain everything.
So this...is what the world looks like through a human's perspective. He couldn't remember the last time he hadn't felt bloodlust.
Sigh. Yuuki was a headstrong girl up to the last minute. He had supposedly given his life for her and Kiryuu to be together and in the end, she has sacrificed herself for him. Although in retrospect, he had a feeling she might have but dismissed it as his own arrogance. From what he heard though, Kiryuu and her had had a good millenia together, and she had been happy. He felt slightly bitter as he wondered if another reason behind her actions were that she wanted to follow him to the grave. Alas, one only really had the will to live for so long. But what he had done was the right thing to do and he knew that for sure now, a start towards correcting all his wrongs.
It's funny though, because now, a millennia later, he not only had gotten over his hatred for Zero but was a bit fond of him almost...the horror. He blames it on his nephew though. Even though his appearance was a carbon copy of Zero, he found that he held no resentment towards him, and was actually quite protective of the boy. He was quiet and mature, but could be very kind in subtle ways.
His daughter on the other hand...he didn't quite know how to treat at first. One would think with how old and jaded he was he would have handled it better but he still didn't know quite what to make of her. She was quiet and mature, the exact opposite of Yuuki. She seemed to have been raised well and Zero had apparently treated her as his own, something he would be in the hunter's debt for. She wasn't intimidated by him and seemed quite comfortable with the fact that he was her biological father.
It was almost uncomfortable for him, these feelings of content and peace that arose in the chest from time to time. The need to calculate everything from an angle had almost overwhelmed him at first. But it was a time of peace now but war was a part of human and vampire nature, and selfish as it may sound, he hoped he would perish before anything could brew up. But he also had his family to think of now didn't he? For now though, he would just relish in the warmth of his family...he quite liked that word.
But honestly, Yuuki hadn't changed much in the course of her life had she? The thought made him chuckle. He was a pureblood vampire, the founder of the Kuran's. He wondered if she had honestly believed that she could suppress his vampire side for long.
Okay to clear up confusion, basically
~This is set at the end of Vampire Knight, right after the scene of Kaname waking up after Yuuki turned hi human.
~The next scene takes place after a time skip.
~At the end Kaname turns back into a pureblood vampire, because I was reading somewhere thats ince Yuuki started having visions and getting her memories back at 16 and she was a relatively weak pureblood, what made her think that a the "spell" or whatever it is would be powerful enough to actually work on Kaname. But its just my take on it, please don't try to get me explain the mechanics of how that would work lol.
~And if anyone is wondering why he can't just turn human using the technique that Aidou came up with, well he wants to protect him family (His kid and Zero's kid with Yuuki) so thats why he wants to have his full power available to protect them in case any brouhaha occurs again. He also has a reason to live again because of this you know?
