Feli awoke with a start. Her heart beat quickly. The same dream had come again. The one where she was named Katniss, and she had a super mega love triangle with two hot guys. Shaking her head, she noted that her brother, Cub, was sleeping next to her mother.
Feli grabbed her Work gear and headed out, hissing at Cub's dog, Whistle, she jumped out the window. Walking Down the quiet street, she wondered where all the HappyKeepers where. It was alittle earily. Feli shrugged, it didnt matter, It just ment less witnesses to watch her run off.
Feli walked up to the electric fence, the one to keep the two leggers out of her District. She touched the linked barb wire fence. When she should have had a painful shock, it was nothing. The fence hadn't been on in years.
Crouching, Feli slid her slick body beneath the fence, It was easy for her, being a cat and all. Shaking, she trotted quickly into the woods, right as she heard the morning patrol walk by.
Feli strolled through the Quiet woods, she snagged her bow and arrows from beneath a rotting log, and walked to a small rock, shapped like a cave. Nestled in the rock, was a dark grey and purple Dog. His grey eyes watched her as she emerged from the woods.
"Hey Dubble! Catch anything yet?" Feli called up the hill. Dubble twitched his large pointed ears. Feli looked where he pointed.
Whistling, Feli gazed at the small pile. Two deer, a Turkey, and three ducks. Feli gazed back at Dubble, who had stood up.
"How 'bout we pick some wild strawberries and call it a day? We need to head back in time for the Reaping." Dubble asked quietly. He was headed toward Feli.
Nodding, Feli felt her self shudder. The pain and misary the reaping held was unbearable. The misary it held for each family. At least it was her and Dubble's last year being in the reaping jar.
Heading down the trail, both went to pick the strawberries and hope, they had another safe year.
Feli fidgeted behind the thick rope. She could smell the fear rolling off the other kids her age. No one wanted to be in the Happy games. It was almost sure you would never see your famly again. It was asumed you would die some painful way, deep in whatever the HappyMakers decieded.
I watched the Small brown squirrel walk across the stage and anonce the reaping was to begin. Of course there would be a small slideshow about the previous tributes. Untill finally, the huge jar was placed on the table. I crossed my fingers as he slid his paw into the jar and swirrled it around.
Raising the crumpled note up, "Ladies and Gentelmen, We have are first Tribute!" He held it in front of his nose "Cub EverDeen"
My heart stopped. He was barely of age, and this was his first reaping. I turned to see my mother gasping for air as Cub walked pas her. He stummbled past the years before him. He stopped and Looked me right in the eyes, and continued on, toward the stage, where a pink chipmunk was waiting.
Throwing myself over the rope, i began to scream, "Wait! He's way to young! I Volunteer!" I heard the crowd gasp. No one from our district has ever volunteered for another.
The Squirrel began yelling at Giggles, the chipmunk, for his book. Grabbing it from her he began to read.
"Its legal" He stated quietly. I felt my tail being yanked as Cub screamed.
"FELI! YOU CANT GO, I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF, I WONT DIE" He screamed. I looked back at him, Dubble had grabbed him and was holding on.
"No Cub, you cant, your still young, And you have something your good at. You stay here and look after mom." I stated dulley. I stalked onto the stage. The brown squirrel called another Name, A blue dog named Bubble. Nobody voulenteered for him. Out of the corner of my eye, i watched him. Wondering if i will end up killing this scrawny mutt, or if he would kill me first.
