Hello everyone! This is a one-shot Sherlolly AU, inspired by the song "On my Own" from the musical, Les Misérables. The song came to my mind and it kind of reminded me of Molly's unrequited love for Sherlock. So, here it is...
This is it. Today's the day.
Molly closed her eyes as she breathed in the reality of what is about to happen.
But as she did, her thoughts brought her back to that spellbinding night clearly etched in her mind.
Molly stood by the lake, at the exact spot written of in the letter she took from her mailbox a few hours before. The person did not bother to write a name, but she knew perfectly to whom the handwriting belonged to.
"Molly..."
Her heart skipped a beat at the sweet sound of his voice. It was the first time he spoke her name that way. What took you so long?
"I'm so glad you came." He said as she turned towards him.
"Was there ever a time I said no you, Sherlock?"
He simply answered with a smile, then he held out his hand to her. Although a bit unsure of what is taking place, she took it and allowed herself to be led by him.
They walked through the moonlit lakeside, reminiscing moments they've spent together, silly ones, awkward ones, "death defying" ones. Never once did Sherlock let go of her hand. Here, Molly felt that she actually really mattered to him.
"Sherlock?"
"Yes?"
"Is this..." She asked a bit hesitantly, "for a case... or some kind of experiment? Because, I find this quite... I mean, you don't usually... Oh, never mind. Sorry." A short embarrassed laugh came out of her as she felt her cheeks warm up.
Sherlock chuckled. "I don't blame you for thinking that way, Molly. I'm not in any way offended. You've been so used to me saying or doing nice things to you just to get body parts... I'm not surprised that you asked me that."
He stopped, turned to her, held her other hand and looked straight into her eyes. Molly tried to maintain balance as she felt her knees wobble a bit. Those eyes...
"Not this time, Molly. No. That's why I asked you to meet me here. To make this moment truly special, uniquely memorable. That everytime you think of this... each time you come to this place, you would always remember how much..."
He moved closer to her, gazed more deeply into her eyes as his fingers lifted her chin up... and placed his lips upon hers. Lightly at first, then more passionately as they began to give in to the intensity of the feelings they have for each other.
Molly felt a warm rush all over, as her heart beat wildly. Oh how I wish this would never end...
"...I love you." Sherlock whispered tenderly as they both tried to catch their breath. She leaned her head against his chest and laughed quietly at the sound of his heartbeat, which thumped as fast as hers; the warmth of his arms wrapping her body did nothing to slow it down.
"I love you too, Sherlock." Molly whispered back as she cupped between her hands that face whose smile beamed as brightly as the sun that rose is the sky.
Molly can't help but shed a nostalgic tear as she sees Sherlock glow with that same smile in front of her today.
"I hope you'll be happy, Sherlock. You deserve to be..." She whispered, much more to herself than to him.
She tried to hold back the tears that began to fall as she tried to brush off the reverie of that moonlit night.
Molly breathed in the reality of what she came here today for...
To witness Sherlock marry The Woman he loves.
