A/N: So. I loved the episode 8D Wasn't it awesome? *ahem* Moving on from the obsessive fangirl foolishness - (did anybody else think that Tim defying Gibbs was INCREDIBLY hot?) - this is just a short little oneshot I wrote as a companion piece to the episode. Not much to it, just kind of Tim's POV of the last scene. Tell me what you think! :D

Disclaimer: I don't own NCIS. Not much else to say.

"Whoa," Penny commented, stepping closer to Tim. "Oh, that Tony DiNozzo."

He smiled, and she paused for a moment.

"It comforts me to know that you're with such a good group of people. I'll admit, even Gibbs has begun to grow on me a little bit. His cold, despotic ways… Really part of his charm. Who knew."

"You know, he actually reminds me a lot of…" He trailed off. "You know. A little bit."

"Yeah," she agreed, nodding. "In other words, he loves you, but has no idea how to show it."

Tim hesitated, unsure. "…Does he?"

"Oh, sweetheart, he loves you so much," she whispered. "He always has, Timothy. Deeply."

She noticed how he looked away. "You need to take the first step, Timothy. Call him."

He struggled for words. "It's been almost seven years. I wouldn't know what to say."

"Oh, you're a smart boy, you'll figure it out."

Footsteps drew their attention away from their conversation.

"Oh," Penny said, "here's my ride."

Tim looked from Ducky to Penny and back again as Ducky came, smiling, into the room.

"Wait, is this a date?"

"Oh, just a cocktail, Timothy," she replied.

"Ah, cocktails!" Ducky repeated with another smile. Penny eyed him suggestively. "Mhmm."

Then she turned back to Tim for just a moment more. "Sweetheart," she whispered, "call him." She planted a small kiss on his cheek and then crossed over to Ducky, accepting the arm he offered.

Tim hardly heard them discussing where they would go. He thought about what Penny had said, remembering the last time he and his father had spoken. It hadn't ended well, hence the seven year silence. He eyed his phone warily for a moment before sitting down at his desk.

Slowly, hesitantly, he lifted the desk phone from it's resting place and dialed the familiar number. The moments while it rang were long and terrifying.

Sometimes you can forget where things went wrong in your relationship with someone, but sometimes one of you has to be the bigger person. Someone has to take the first step.

"Hello?"

He had only a split second to think about what he was going to say, but that second was enough to realize that he didn't need to overthink things. Just go with it, he could almost hear Abby saying.

"Hi, Dad? It's me, Tim."

A/N: PLEASE review. You have no clue what it would mean to me :D I have a few regulars who I'd like to specifically thank, you know who you are ;D Hope you enjoyed it! If you did, tell me about it!

P.S. I know somebody's going to tell me I got the dialogue wrong, so I'm gonna stop that right in it's tracks. I quoted everything directly. Don't believe me? Watch the episode again and match this up with the last scene, and tell me where I'm wrong. Do it.
