He just sat there. Ignoring me, ignoring Matt. Just continued to build his tower out of dice. Every dice was faced the same way, and piled in a straight line, so perfect. I hated it.
"Near."
The small, pale, boy continued to build his tower, paying no attention to us, as if we weren't there.
"Aren't you going to say hi? It's been a while since I saw you"
"He won't answer you Mello, he never does." The red head said, his eyes glued to his game console in his hands.
"Shut up, Matt"
Matt didn't care what I said, even Matt wouldn't look at me, his eyes were still concentrated on his psp.
I decided to take a few steps towards the albino, crouching down next to him. I thought that if I messed around with his tower a bit, he would have to talk to me.
As soon as Near added a new dice to the tower, I lifted my hand and flicked it off. But in the process of doing that, the dice bounced off the wall and hit me back in the face.
Matt couldn't help to laugh, but Near just sat there, picking up another dice as if it didn't happen.
I shot a glare at Matt, he got the message and slowly backed out of the room.
Near was frustrating me, he always acted like I wasn't even there. Without thinking, I swung my hand through the middle of the dice tower and watched it as it crumbled and the dice fell to the ground. I couldn't help to smirk.
"What do you want, Mello?" The white-haired boy said, lifting his head a little, but not allowing me to see his grey eyes, yet still showing no emotion he continued to pile up the dice again.
Finally, I got some attention from him, but not enough.
"Aren't I allowed to just come and say hi?"
"So you don't have any other reason to being here? That's interesting."
Out of anger I grabbed a hold of the front of Nears bright, white shirt, pulling him a bit forward. I know Near likes his personal space, but if this is the only way for him to show the slightest bit of emotion then I have to.
"Listen, Near. I'm just trying to be a friendly person. I haven't been able to see you in almost two years, and you won't even look at me properly. At least I'm making an effort to come and see you."
I stood up, still holding onto Nears shirt, making Near stand up to. Pulling his shirt higher, he began to stand on the tip of his toes. Near didn't look at me though, avoiding to make eye contact with me, he looked down at the dice.
"I see, so this is your way of being friendly… "
"Well….it was, until you made me angry!"
"I did nothing but stack my dice."
"Exactly, you did nothing. Wait…what?"
Dammit, he's made me confused, great now I look like an idiot. I'll just come out and say it.
"I just want you to talk to me Near."
Near lifted his head, making eye contact with me. His dark eyes just continued to stare at my face. I waited for Near to reply, there was a long silence.
"Mello, can I touch your scar."
A bit surprised by his answer, I let go of my grip on his shirt. Near was now onto his two feet, no longer on his toes.
"Uhh…yeah, sure…"
Nears hand moved up towards my face, and gently placed his hand over the scar, cupping one side of my face. His thumb felt over the smooth and rough surface of skin around my eye, his eyes were studying the small details. I wrapped my arms around Nears back and pulled him in, his face resting on my chest, he dropped his hand and his shoulders were tense.
"What's wrong?"
Nears face was squished between my arm and my chest, causing his voice to be muffled.
"I-I've…never had a hug before…"
He… has never had a hug? I didn't say anything, neither did he. We stood for a while, and then I felt Nears hands move up and wrapped around my back too. He was hugging me.
"It feels nice."
