Dustfinger had never liked the idea that someone wrote his life for him. It was the main reason that old man Fenoglio irked him.

So it only seemed natural that he'd love someone from a different story.

He loved Roxanne. But that love, those emotions, were written for him. His thoughts of longing and her were not his, but rather another's. Their love, once Fenoglio lost his control over his story, faded.

Actually, if one wanted to be more accurate, the relationship began its fall from grace when Roxanne remarried, and he left. They became two different people.

She in the Inkworld and him in her world.

He really had changed when he went to the other world via Silvertongue's voice. His life suddenly became his own; he was able to write it as he pleased. His cowardice from his earlier days, faded with each small adventure.

But he couldn't give the credit just to Silvertongue for helping him. He owed it to her, too.

Meggie Folchart, Mo's daughter.

She had stayed by his side, fought with him, laughed with him, stood up to him, and saved him. She's one of the main reasons he's who he is today. He owed it all to her.

He loved her.

With this love, he knew it wasn't being written for him. The feelings of desire and love and care and emotions that can't be described were all his own. And he knew she felt the same. They didn't have an author for this story, that's what made it so special.

But there were complications. There always were.

There was Farid. There was Brianna. There was Doria. There was Resa. There was Mo. There was still Roxanne. There was everyone. Everyone in Inkworld and everyone in the other world.

They were all connected, and they'd all be affected. Farid was like a son to him and he still loved Meggie. Dustfinger would be hurting him with this. He'd be hurting his daughter by being with a girl a few years her junior. Meggie was sort of with that Doria fellow, they'd be hurting him. Resa still held a spot in his heart, and it was her daughter he was contemplating being with. Mo…well, it's obvious that he'd be affected. It's his daughter, his precious little girl that Dustfinger fell in love with.

Many were and have been hurt in this journey. But they'd make it through. She loved him back, somehow. She stuck with him, no matter what. She even defied Mo, and stayed with him, knowing what she was doing.

Yes, he hated having others write his life. Even today he can't look at a book and not feel a little sympathy for those characters inside. But…when it comes to her, he loves to watch her write, and he loves it when she reads to him. When it comes to her, she's like a story all her own. She has characteristics, and an amazing plot, and he can't wait to turn to the next page, he can't wait to be with her and just…be.

Yes, Dustfinger wouldn't mind reading if it was with Meggie.

Only with Meggie.
