Beautiful and sad, the elegance that hid behind her vulnerable eyes danced on the glint of wet tears that slid over her cheeks. She hadn't the slightest why the droplets had decided to make their appearance now, but they fell untamed, her chest caving with embarrassment as she stifled an audible sob.
"I don't know what's wrong with me." Was all she could manage as he stared down at her. She hadn't the gall to look at him in her embarrassment, missing the sudden tenderness that flashed across the mask of his face.
"Aw, love, there's nothing wrong with you." Slowly he moved towards her, the friction between them unusual as he was unsure, for the first time in knowing her, whether he should hold her or not. She looked so fragile in his eyes, that he feared, was he to take her into his arms, he would break her. As if sensing his thoughts she leaned into him, she muttered a quiet 'it's okay' and relaxed into his warm chest. Gently he stroked her sandy brown hair, his chin resting on the crown of her head.
"Come home with me." It was out before he could think about it. He felt her body stiffen against him and immediately regretted his words.
"I'm sorry, I misspoke." He stumbled over his words; He hadn't misspoken, he had meant exactly what he said, just hadn't meant to say it out loud.
Shifting she didn't leave his arms, but wriggled around to face him, the tears gone, a hazed curious look about her. Staring in silence she drew closer, eyes roaming his face innocently, moving in to rest her forehead on his stubbled chin. Lightly, she slid a frail hand down his chest, to meet his larger hand at her waist. Stretching her fingers she lifted his hand and wrapped her own with it, closing her eyes, and taking in his scent.
"I would…" she whispered, breath warm and welcomed on his neck, "in a heartbeat Cal, In a heartbeat."
A/N: Hope you enjoyed! It was completely meant to give you the warm and fuzzies. I hope it did!
