Makoto is convinced it's because of the sex.
She has a theory that the reason Kunzite is so serious all the time is because he's too pent up and only Minako has the know how on to relax him.
Rei somewhat agrees. She believes it's the passion they both have the capacity for. With Minako being the senshi of love and Kunzite, well she's not really too sure of how passionate he could be outside of a battlefield, but she imagined if it compared to that it must be impressive.
Ami was convinced it was much simpler than all that. They simply understood each other. As leaders of their perspective groups they both bore the same heavy burden. It was an understanding that drew the two together.
Usagi was the only one without a theory and because of that she was the most curious. Maybe it was a combination of all 3 theories. In any case, she had to find out what drew the two leaders together.
None of them had ever seen such an odd couple. Minako was certifiable, Usagi thought with a heart full of love and a hint of worry. And while Kunzite definitely earned a giant spot in her heart, along with the rest of the shitennou, Usagi recognized he was an old fashioned stick in the mud.
Minako was light and loud and everywhere all at once. Kunzite was stone and shadows and severity incarnate.
So, when the opportunity presented itself to the four women during Usagi and Mamoru's housewarming party, they pulled the boisterous blonde into a room and unabashedly demanded an explanation.
"Why do I love him?"
"We're not trying to be rude, Mina." Usagi began.
"No, not at all, we just want to understand!" Makoto quickly spoke, worried she would offend her friend.
"How did you fall in love? What is it that you see in him?" Rei was done beating around the bush. She wanted answers.
"Aside from his drop-dead-where-I-stand gorgeous features, of course." Usagi added.
Minako stared at her friends for a second and then began to laugh. "Is this what you all do when I'm not around? Debate our relationship?"
Ami's "No!" would have sounded a lot more sincere if Rei hadn't exclaimed "Yes!" at the same time.
Minako's laughter grew louder.
"Come on Meens! Just tell us!" Makoto whined.
Minako tried to control her giggling.
"Really, though. I think you guys make such a great couple. I can't really explain why and I think that's why we want to know. What attracted you to him in the first place? Besides his looks, I mean." Usagi tried to explain.
Minako looked at each of them-they were all staring so intently at her, so curious- and decided to give them an answer.
"You guys are so silly. His sense of humor, of course!"
Without further explanation the blonde exited the room still giggling , leaving four women blinking in astonishment behind.
After a few moments the women regained their composure, resolved that their leader simply didn't want them to know the truth.
Usagi later was observing the party and all of her friends and family smiling and laughing joyfully. It warmed her heart. Then she spotted bright as ever Minako and the always serious Kunzite in a corner of the living room also looking over the party as they drank their beers. She saw Kunzite lean slightly towards Minako and speak softly into her ear, straightening with a slight smirk on his face. Minako then burst into uncontrollable giggles burying her face in his chest laughing hysterically.
Had Usagi not felt so happy for her sister senshi and complacent in finding a sliver of understanding the weird relationship, she would have passed out from shock at finding out that Kunzite was capable of cracking a joke.
AN: I wrote this years ago and figured I should post it. Next chapter of The Space Between has been deleted twice, just to prove that I am working on it. Haha!
I know this is ridiculously short but leave a note anyway, please? Every review makes my whole day!
Xoxo God Bless!
