I always needed time on my own
I never thought I'd need you there when I cry
Farid sat on a bench, crying. Dustfinger had accidently mentioned Silvertongue, and of course that reminded Farid of Meggie. Oh Meggie. The only girl who made his heart beat.
And the days feel like years when I'm alone
And the bed where you lie, is made up on your side
It felt like decades since Farid had last seen her. But in fact, it was only 2 months. He wondered what he had done wrong to deserve this.
When you walk away, I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much I need you right now
He remembered the day Meggie chose Doria over him. How much it hurt to see Meggie break his heart. How could she do it? Without looking back? Kissing Doria right in front of him. Did she not care less.
When you're gone, the pieces of my heart are missing you
When you're gone, the face I came to know is missing too
His heart was shattered, yet he didn't go a day without thinking of her. Dustfinger always told him to let go, but he couldn't do it. Farid couldn't even remember what she looked like. Had she changed? Heck, she was probably happier without him. She probably didn't even remember the first boy who stole her heart. It was probably a vague memory in her head.

To always get me through the day, and make it okay
I miss you
He wanted to hear her voice again. He wanted to be with her just once, so they could clear things. Then everything would make sense. Then he wouldn't have to go everyday thinking about what he did wrong. He missed her.

And the clothes you left, they lie on the floor
And they smell just like you, I love the things that you do
He remembered the days when they went from village to village. Everything was amazing then. Everywhere he went, he remembered those days.

Farid knew that they both belonged in the Inkworld. And Meggie just had to leave with stupid Doria. Doria, the boy who stole Meggie from him. If Farid had stayed in his book, none of this would have happened! Or if Doria never existed! That would be heaven.

He felt weak without her. Like his world was falling apart. She knew, but she decided to leave him. To break his heart.

He got up from the bench, brushing the tears away from his face. He slowly walked back to the farm. He had to remember that Meggie was probably in a better place without him. He had to look forward. He took out a photo of Meggie. He lit it up on fire. He just had to continue his life without her. Even though it hurt so bad.
