Author's Note: I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who missed the premiere episode of POI and I do plan to watch it... one day, so no spoilers found here. Seeing how this is the last season this is my take on the what I would love to see happen on the last episode, I'm 100% sure none of this is actually gonna happen... but I sooo wish it would. Tissue warning and blame it all on iheartShules who sold me on finally writing this ideal out.I don't own this characters if I did Iris wouldn't have existed and Joss would be living with cute little John babies. Lastly Joss is included in this read it to see what I mean. Consider reading this while listening to The Grateful Dead's version of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Enjoy.

"Mr. Reese you must hold on help is on the way." Harold Finch cried. He was at a lost trying to help Detective Fusco stop the blood flowing from John's many wounds. John had saved him yet again, and while they beat Samaritan at last seeing his friend cough up blood Finch knew he was losing him.

"Lionel... 12,14,13. Remember that." Wheezed John ignoring Finch for the moment and causing Fusco to look up from the blood flowing from John's leg wounds to the dying man. He knew they were all crying, but he refused to give up. Fusco knew he wasn't ready to loose another friend so he tried to keep him talking.

"I know you ain't feeling too good, but that ain't how you count." Fusco tried to joke as he looked from John to the door hoping to see some form of help. He had to call in the shooting, but seeing as how John was a cop that wasn't really a cop he hadn't reported that an officer was shot meaning help wasn't coming fast enough.

"No...it's a comb...combination. Safe's behind gun closet. Give to Taylor, tell him sorry" John whispered trying in vein to take deep breaths to give his message. He couldn't fail at this, he promised HER. After Joss died John lost his way, but since coming back he made it a point to see Taylor at least once a week. He could never have HER, but John saw a lot of Jocelyn Carter and the love he denied himself of in her son. Though John knew he wouldn't physically watch her son anymore, he kept his personal promise of watching him graduate high school at the top of his class.

Lionel recited the numbers to himself twice before suddenly recalling what those numbers meant. It was the night they lost the best partner he ever had. Carter showed him how to be a good police detective, a better father and all around pretty great man if he said so himself. John though, whether he said it out loud or not, whole life revolved around the beautiful detective first evading her then falling for her. Fusco knew if it wasn't for him, Finch, Taylor and the numbers the bane of his existence would cease to exist after losing her.

"Thank...you guys. She says... time to go. Watch over Taylor" John gasped out. Eyes focused on the sky as he heard Joss' soft voice tell him to let go. He did it, his mission was over and it was time to stop knocking on heaven's door and join her at last. Fusco and Finch watched their friend as a smile on his face bloomed and with one final exhale of Carter's name he was gone.

John never thought he would make it here, but the beautiful place couldn't be aything other than Heaven. The first face to greet him once Heaven's door opened wasn't what he expected to see but loved even more especially when Jocelyn Carter the love of his life hugged him and said "John. I missed you, welcome home." Looks like he's no longer knocking.
