But when he used the Killing curse it backfired on him causing part of his soul to be torn from him and latch onto Harry Potter...And now Harry has been cursed forever with a lightning shaped scar engraved on his forehead.

After this tragic end to both of his parents he had to live with his only living relatives, The Dursley's and so forth the Legend was brought to life.
