12 Pieces to His Story
Mello (or Mihael Keehl)
12. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn't some kind of addict- to anything. He wasn't a(n) alcoholic/druggie/chocoholic. He was just comfortable in his ways, and saw no reason to change.
11. Well, then again, maybe he was addicted to chocolate. He had to constantly deal with criminals, and it was getting to him. Despite the attitude that he gave off of being morally ambivalent, that the ends always justified the means, a little voice always told him that what he was doing was wrong. He was killing in the pursuit of Kira, who he wanted to lock up for killing many. Wasn't there something wrong with this picture? The question constantly nagged him, leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. Is it any wonder that he constantly devoured sugar, to eradicate this?
10. Okay, so he was lying again. Perhaps part of him wanted to hunt down Kira for the murders. But what he really wanted was to find Kira as revenge for L. L had died in his search for Kira, murdered. L had been his mentor, his brother, and his idol. He had worshiped L, everybody at Wammy's did. L was who they aspired to be; he had been invincible. And then he had died. What does one do, when their idol dies?
9. Simple, he hunts down who killed him. One would suppose that this isn't the usual response to such a matter, but then again, Mello had never been normal, had he?
8. After all, his father had certainly told him this many times. And no, he hadn't had abusive parents, again contrary to popular belief. His parents had been loving and kind, his father always telling him that he was a special boy, who would grow up to do great things for the world. His parents had recognized early on that his intelligence and intuition, coupled with his decisive action would make him an extraordinary person.
7. They had always believed in him.
6. Until they died.
5. It was his foster parents that had been cruel. Life with the Stephens had been harsh and difficult. He barely had any clear memories of living there, because it had all been a blur of pain. He didn't know it, but they had resented his clear thoughts, resented how he was above and beyond their only child.
4. The Stephens' child had severe mental and physical disabilities. He would never be able to take care of himself, staying alive was a struggle enough.
3. They couldn't understand why their child would always be cursed to a horrible fate, locked up in his own body, while Mello was gifted with so much.
2. Lashing out was their way of revenge, a strange twisted revenge upon the universe, induced by intense jealousy.
1. But Mello doesn't know anything about jealousy, does he?
A/N: These are rather clichéd views on Mello, but I was experimenting with this writing format. Don't take these as the complete explanation to Mello, but rather, 12 connected pieces to put with the puzzle of Mello. Read and review, please! Criticisms given gracefully will be accepted gratefully. And please, pile on those criticisms, so I can improve as a writer. (Although I probably should have revised this more, before posting it.) Thanks!
