"Mum? Can we talk?"
"Sure thing dear", Mum answered.
I took a deep breath before starting:
"I am going to ask you to listen and wait until I am finished before you speak."
"Is this serious?"
"Yes mum, and important as well."
"You are not pregnant, are you?"
"No mum, I am not pregnant, and please let me talk, and listen, and keep an open mind."
"I'll try." She answered. "What is it then, Ginny?"
"I want to move out"
"You want to what?"
"MUM!"
"Sorry, I am listening."
"I want to move out, on my own. I have been working at the Leaky for a while now, and Old Tom wants me to take more hours. And I found a nice little flat, on Charring Cross. I know it's a muggle neighbourhood but the landlord is related to Tom and I could connect it to the floo if I want. And I am of age. And I already signed the paperwork" That last part had been more mumbled that spoken, and I did it intentionally. I know my mum. I would NOT tell her now that Dad helped me secure the deal for the flat. Dad had to sleep a few night on the couch when she found out he gave Tom my name for the job at the Leaky. Better leave him out of this, at least for today...
"YOU WHAT? What will the rest of the family think?"
"No mum, this is not a family matter, this is about me, nobody else. I am an adult now and I need to be on my own now. And as I said, I already signed the lease."
"But Ginny, my baby..."
"Mum..." I took my time to carefully word what I was going to say. "I know that in your heart, I will always be your baby girl and it makes me feel good to know that. But at the same time, you need to let her grow up, to let me grow up. Now is the time to let me go."
