"Cloud…?" Kadaj muttered barely audible from his position on the couch, not caring if the blond answered him or not.
His mind was plagued, more so than usual, the terrifying thoughts were usually lost to him when Cloud hung around, but not today. Today marked a year since he lost it, and resurrected Sephiroth. Cloud was well aware of all of that, Kadaj figured that was part of the reason he was there. Cloud kept him sane, as sane as he could be, made him feel safe from the whole mess he caused. He had hope for repenting, not that he ever had a chance of being forgiven, but Cloud at least accepted him. His eyes drifted over lazily to Cloud, tracing and memorizing his every feature, for when he left him alone again. Ironic how his enemy had become his savior. He'd never admit it to Cloud, but he was sure he already knew.
"Hm?" The voice trailed to Kadaj, floating through his mind. He was a quiet self-depreciating hero, yet every word that escaped him had enough to drive Kadaj insane. It wasn't fair.
"What if…" He sighed, frowning at the floor, he couldn't say it. "Nothing."
Cloud eyed him for a moment, before leaning back farther on the couch. Kadaj smiled, how had this beautiful creature become his? He sighed, in a second all of that could be ruined. After all, Kadaj was still Kadaj, stuck in the same cycle of nightmares and lack of fulfillment. His destiny was to become Sephiroth, over and over; Sephiroth wouldn't ever die, not so long as Kadaj remained. And not even then. Cloud held the secret to Sephiroth's ultimate defeat, his own demise. Kadaj laughed internally, of course, the one he appreciated more than anyone else was the one causing all of this. But that was fine; he never once despised Cloud for it, never once wished for him to die. At least, not within the past year.
"Kadaj?"
"Huh?" He turned towards Cloud, who had returned to eyeing him suspiciously, Kadaj blushed embarrassed.
"I won't let it happen."
"Cloud…" Kadaj wanted to tell him that he couldn't stop it, that it was a never ending cycle of torment. But he already knew all that, didn't he? Instead he trailed off, staring back at the floor.
He felt Cloud shift on the couch, felt his arm curl around him. His natural reaction to bury his face in Cloud's chest kicked in, and that's how they stayed. Kadaj breathed a sigh of relief, even if it did happen again; Cloud would fight to get him back. He felt safe, and warm again as Cloud stroked his hair, his hand curled around the fabric of Cloud's clothing. Slowly the worry faded, as Kadaj glanced up at Cloud, he knew the warrior was right. They weren't alone, they'd fight it together.
