My third entry in the Gaia contest. We were restricted to only four paragraphs . . . o 3o Teddy-centric.
foe-glass
"Did you hear that? Did something just break?"
A fifth-year looks into his bag and groans in distress. He pulls a piece of broken glass from its contents. "My Foe-Glass broke! Do you have any idea what this costs? My mum's going to kill me . . ."
Teddy takes the piece of glass from his friend's hand ("Wait! What're you doing, Ted?" "I just want to see it, is all.") and places it carefully in his palm. It remains inactive, his blue eyes reflecting in the shiny glass. His friend leans over and looks into the glass as well. He says, voice bubbling with mock-horror, "Holy Merlin! Look, it's McGonagall!"
When Teddy raises his head to laugh along with his friend, he just misses the flicker of gold that sparks in the glass.
