Disclaimer: This version of Kagome's father is mine, I certainly hope she had better. . . some of us didn't.
AN: I'm in a dark mood, and this is my first truly dark Inuyasha fic ( ~grins at the people who read her fics~ Angst is different from dark! Really!)
Otousan
Kagome starred down at the unkempt grave. The look in her deep blue eyes was devoid of any real emotion. No…that's not quite right. They were filled with an emotion that rarely crossed their azure hues. Hate.
"Otou-san..."
She bit her lower lip upon speaking the word. The taste of it was foul in her mouth and she clutched her hands at her sides so she wouldn't tremble as she spoke.
"You always said that I would never accomplish anything. Can you see what I've accomplished from where you are now? Would you still say those things?"
The wind started to pick up and it lifted Kagome's hair. As if to respond she let out an unladylike snort.
"No… Even now that the Shikon-No-Tama is almost complete you'd probably say I was wasting my time helping Inuyasha."
Just as the tears threatened to overtake her she felt a familiar and comforting presence. She looked up into the trees but no one was there. So she went on.
"Is it wrong…to be glad you were killed? It doesn't make me the most dutiful of daughters does it? But I am! I am glad you died! I'm glad we don't have to hide anymore! I'm glad you can't hurt us anymore!"
Raged teared away at her and she threw away the bottle of sake she'd brought as an offering. It landed on the ground a few feet away with a thud followed by the sound of pouring liquid.
"Kaa-san always tried to protect us. You were never home, we never had any money. Was it the only thing you could control? Beating her? Oh but you never touched me. Not until that last time."

It was the knocking on the door that woke her. She realized that she'd fallen asleep on the cold-compress her mother had given her, to hide the bruising, and rubbed her cheek to give it some warmth. She watched from the window as her grandfather opened the door, bat in hand. He'd only just barely managed to chase her father out earlier that day. But it wasn't the man whom Kagome had come to fear at the door.
"Is this the Higurashi residence?"
"Yes. Yes it is. Can I help you two…"
The two police officers at the threshold exchanged glances. Uncertainly, one of them spoke.
"It's about Higurashi, Fuka."
hr
"Yes . . . that's his wallet."
The coroner bowed apologetically
"It was…very savage scene ma'am. I'm afraid this was all we could salvage."
An infant Souta began to wail and Kagome moved closer to him and her grandfather. At that time, there were no words.

Inuyasha watched as Kagome walked away from her father's grave. Her head was held high.
But this wasn't the Inuyasha of the past. His hair was short and his garb modern. It took centuries of waiting to acquire the will to hold himself back. This is what was necessary. He couldn't let her know. It had to be this way.
How was she to know that once they completed their mission the jewel would separate them? Or that he would wait for her, find her and watch over her. He would take care of her and rid her of the first demon in her life…her father. Only when she came back for the last time would he be able to reveal himself to her.
hr
Kagome closed her eyes as she jumped into the well, towards Inuyasha, Shippou, Miroku, Sango, and a better future. . .
"Goodbye father. . ."
AN: Ah. It's a bit hard to follow. But I hope that you get the drift. It's feels a bit forced but the plot bunnies wouldn't leave it alone.
