Thoughtful
Chapter 1
Thoughtful
He couldn't sleep, not while Raven was poking at his brain and kept him contempt in his dreams and knowing that when he woke up he didn't have her. Knowing that there could never be anything between them…in plain terms that sucked. His own dreams betraying him, stabbing at his heart and giving him false hope.
So for now he kept awake best he could…he didn't have a clue as to why he didn't want to sleep. He didn't see anything wrong with indulging a little and yet he couldn't stand losing her every time he woke up…there was just something inhuman about torturing himself like that.
It was then that he spotted her; sitting on the couch as he came into the TV room. He didn't want to startle her out of her thoughts; this was all she really did at this time of night) so he called out her name softly, sounding almost like a faraway dream. But he hoped that this wasn't another one of his dreams.
"Raven?" She whirled around and looked at him her face as usual showing not one spec of emotion.
"Hey." Raven replied sadly. BB sat down beside her.
"How are you?" She looked almost shocked and taken aback by the question. "What is it?" He asked concernedly.
"I'm sorry it's just…it's been so long since anyone has said anything to me that was remotely close to that." She sighed a little and continued. "On the day my mother sent me to earth… and I was preparing just before the ceremony, she came into my room and asked 'Are you ready?' That was seven years ago… and now here I sit for all to see, a failure at life…I'm pathetic." She scoffed angrily looking herself up and down.
"Wow I- I'm sorry Rae I didn't know-" BB began apologetically but was cut off by Raven putting a finger over her own lips.
"Which is exactly why you shouldn't be apologizing, but I can't blame you." A somber smile appeared on her face. "You did always go out of your way to make me happy or cheer me up." He then gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "What was that for?" Raven asked, as she was a little confused by why he just kissed her.
"You looked like you could use some cheering up." He smiled at her kindly and rested his hand on top of hers that happened to be conveniently close to his leg.
"Beast Boy? Do you ever think about the first day we met?" She gave a heavy sigh. "Like what could have been?" She asked, her voice full of hurtful regret about something.
"I try not to, because if things had gone another way I…" He trailed off and almost refused to finish his sentence.
"What?" she asked anxiously her face looking full of worry.
"I probably would have never met you." He laughed with quiet nervousness and looked into her eyes. "You taught me so much about what it means to be a hero, truth be told Rae, your inspiring." At this Raven turned away, blushed shyly and smiled.
"I love you Beast Boy, you don't need to love me back I-" She turned to face him, looking at him intently as if looking into his soul and searching for his response to what she was saying. "I just needed to tell you, get it off my chest." She then got off the couch, turned with the intent of walking out of the room. BB called after her, as she was halfway to her exit, yet he strangely didn't bother to turn to look at her when he spoke. "Hey Raven."
"Yeah?" Raven replied plainly, turning to face him as if expecting him to walk right up to her and kiss her.
"Nothing…good night." BB told her sweetly. She then turned and walked out without another word. Beast Boy just sat there for a second or two after she left. "I love you too." He whispered to himself as he walked with heavy, depressing steps up to his room.
