I, Miss Maraudette present to you:

Talk Things Out, otherwise known as Rant, Pant and start over or Friends

Summary: McGonagall has left James and Lily in her office to "talk things out" after James asked Lily out in the middle of class and she slapped him. LxJ [Oneshot

McGonagall shut the door of her office, "I'm going to leave you two here to talk things out and think about what you did. I'll be back soon to check on you."

Lily rolled her eyes and took a deep breath, "Well? What do you have to say to defend yourself?"

"Defend myself?" James asked, pretending to be shocked, "A guy should be able to ask a girl out without having to consider his facial features in the process!"

"You know very well, James Potter, that I am not about to say yes to any date you ask me to go on anytime soon," Lily scoffed in reply.

James shrugged and muttered something like, "It was worth trying."

"We wouldn't be here if you hadn't asked me out in the first place!" Lily went on.

James shrugged again and said, "You should know better than to slap me when you say no."

"Well," Lily steamed on, "You should know better than to ask me when you know I'm going to slap you when Mcgonagall's watching!"

"That still hurts," James gingerly touched his bruised cheek that was turning brown.

"I would have finished my Charms essay by now and we would be in the common room doing something fun!" Lily stormed.

"I…" James began, but Lily kept rambling on.

"You would have finished that Potions essay and the Transfiguration essay if we weren't here…" Lily kept on, "You would have…"

James glanced at the door to see if McGonagall was back.

Nope. Not yet. I'm going to have to take this a while more. James looked back at Lily.

"If you hadn't been such an immature, selfish, rude and annoying…" Lily accused, "I would be…"

James leaned over and thought, Well, here goes. He closed his eyes and kissed her.

There was a pause before Lily demanded, "What was that for?"

"You wouldn't shut up," James answered plainly. He looked down because wasn't sure of the reaction she was taking.

Lily sighed.

"Friends?" James grinned looking up.

"Friends," Lily smiled.
