A/N: Special thanks to Day for proof-reading for me way back when I actually wrote it, to Laura for helping me come up with a title and to Curt Mega for indirectly...I dunno, giving me the strength to actually post this. I sort of wrote it when I was in a very dark place, so...yeah...Anyhoo, enjoy and maybe leave a review because I'm a sucker for reviews and they give me motivation to write more.

WARNING: This deals with self-harm.

Jeff has no clue how long he has been sitting on the cool linoleum floor of the bathroom. Time has lost its meaning. Or rather, time is being measured by how much red there is on the white towel resting under his arm. There is a thin red line along his wrist, blood trickling down the side of his hand and pooling on the soft white towel, either his or Nick's, he isn't very sure.

He knows he should be alarmed by the fact that he's bleeding, because there's so much more blood than he thought there would be. But he can only stare at it with a cool detachment, a kind of fascination at the way there's a thin river of red contrasting sharply against his pale skin. It's almost like a piece of art, he thinks, the barest hint of a smile playing at his lips.

From the other side of the door he hears Nick's voice, though it takes a moment for him to register that the world is moving on without him. It takes another moment before he remembers that Nick isn't supposed to be back yet. Oh well. It doesn't matter. He's locked the door anyway so it's not like Nick can come in or anything.

The doorknob turns and the door opens, and Jeff realises that he has not, in fact, locked the door. He can't even bring himself to turn his head, to look at Nick, because he is simply too entranced by the blood. His blood. He swallows nervously as it finally sinks in. He looks at Nick, wide-eyed, scared, even as Nick is freaking out and pressing at the cut with a fresh white towel and probably screaming at him – he knows Nick is talking but he can't really hear what he's saying – and he looks just as freaked out as Jeff feels but now Jeff knows that he's going to be okay because Nick's here and Nick will know what to do and he leans forward and rests his forehead against Nick's shoulder and closes his eyes as Nick's voice reaches him, telling him to please stay with him and he wonders briefly how much blood he has lost and that's when everything goes dark.
