The ocean
Emily took a breath. One deep breath after another, breathing in the fresh, crisp ocean air. She stood on the shore, near the edge, watching the sun rise up, seeimingly, from the ocean.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" She heard a voice say. She did not speak - she had sensed him coming.
"One could use that word, yes." Emily replied softly, staring out at the red and pink tinted sky.
"But one may also use the word deep and endless. Vast. Depressing, almost." Emily added, nearly so soft it was to herself.
"I guess it depends on the one viewing it. If they are sad, they see the deep and endless part of it. If they are happy, they see the beauty. If they are angry, they see the raging tides." Jayden agreed.
"I used to view it that way," Emily said, not turning to look at him as she spoke. "I used to view it as a vast and endless depressing raging thing. But I have come to view it as a beautiful piece of nature."
"How did you change your views?" Jayden asked.
"I didn't." She now turned halfway towards him. "You did."
"Me?" He asked.
She nodded.
"Well, I guess that's ironic...because you changed my view of it as well.
She looked at him, startled. "Me? I have to be the most clumsy person you know."
"No. You don't realize it, Emily, but you are the most hopeful person I have ever met. You never give up - never - and you always continue to the end. You always manage to find a way around an obstical or anything in your path. You may not see it. But I do." Jayden said.
Emily blushed. "Thank you Jay."
The two sat down, watching the sun rise, hand in hand.
And as the sun rose level with their heads, their lips met.
