Summary: It's Fuji's birthday. What's going to happen? (Thrill Pair)
Warnings: Fuji alone should be a warning. :P (implied Fuji/Ryoma)
February 29th had finally arrived. For many, this was a special day that only comes every four years. For the Seigaku Regulars, it was a day to fear.
Ryoma walked onto the school tennis courts early on the 29th of February, and noticed that it was way too quiet. Glancing around, he realized that no one was in sight.
"Psst! Ochibi!"
Ryoma's sharp ears caught the hushed whisper, and spotted Eiji peeking out from behind the changing room doors. He shrugged and strolled over. When he was close enough to reach, Eiji grabbed him and dragged him into the changing rooms.
"Sempai, what-"
"I don't believe that Echizen knows what day it is today." Inui said, tipping his glasses ever so slightly. Ryoma looked around and saw all the other Regulars gathered there, with the exception of one.
"Ochibi, do you know what day it is today?"
"February the 29th."
Eiji stared at him. "You really don't know?"
Ryoma stared back. Something was weird with his sempai today, usually by now; he would have pounced on the younger boy and hugged him until he was suffocating.
"It's Fuji's birthday today." Tezuka answered the unasked question.
Ryoma was confused. "Then why are you all in here?"
The Regulars exchanged glances.
"Well…. Uh…..you see," Oishi began nervously. "Fuji tends to get more….sadistic on his birthday."
Momo shivered. "I still can't forget what happened last year."
"Fshuu…" Kaidoh hissed. "Fuji-sempai is scary."
"Anyways," Inui said, changing the subject. "It would be best for you to avoid Fuji today."
Ryoma stayed silent, then nodded. "Aa."
"I don't think that he'll do anything bad to you," Taka offered. "But then you should never let your guard down today."
Ryoma was seriously weirded out. Taka usually stayed out of things like this. Maybe he should be more careful today.
"So now, we are hiding out until class starts." Momo said. "And I'm already bored!"
"Well, would you rather be a victim of Fuji's sadistic tendencies?"
"NO!!"
"Exactly."
Just then the bell rang. The Regulars all shared glances. "Good luck everyone."
"Don't let your guard down."
Ryoma wandered along the halls, tired from all the hiding. He had avoided Fuji-sempai for the whole morning, and he was not someone who runs away from danger. Not looking at where he was going, he bumped into someone. He twisted, trying to regain his balance, but it was too late.
He closed his eyes and braced himself, expecting to hit the hard floor. He didn't. Before he touched the floor, strong arms wrapped around him and reversed their positions, so that Ryoma would land on the person.
A familiar chuckle met his ears. "Saa, I never knew you were so clumsy, Ryoma-kun."
Ryoma froze, face still buried in his sempai's shirt. "F-Fuji-sempai."
"Why is it that everyone seems to be missing today? Do you know?"
Ryoma scrambled onto his feet and tugged his cap down low. "They have …. something to do."
Fuji stood up gracefully and dusted himself off. "Is that so."
"Yes." Ryoma slowly edged away. "Thank you, Fuji-sempai. I got to go now."
"Don't I get a birthday present?"
"Um…." The normally unmoved Prince of Tennis looked pretty uncomfortable at the moment.
Fuji smiled. It wasn't very reassuring. "I just decided what I want from you."
Ryoma couldn't answer.
Later…..
"Ne, Syusuke."
"Hmm?"
"Happy Birthday."
