Right. A random drabble dedicated to Yue and Sokka. Yeah, I know there are many of these, but they were such a cute couple!

Of course, I prefer SokkaxZuko, but hey, I'm open-minded and you gotta admit, they were so cute together…

Disclaimer: I wouldn't be here writing fanfics about them if I owned them. BUT…I do own the poem/song, which I hereby title: Dreams of the Moon's Eternal Journey.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

Shadows of Silver Light

Drabble by: SVA

He knew they could never be. It had been doomed from the start. She was a princess while he was nothing more than a peasant.

They had had so little precious time together. She was held back by the duties placed upon her. He was held back by the duties both he and Fate placed upon himself.

But she was already engaged; to a low-life bastard who was only using her.

He loved her. He did not care who she was or what she had.

And she loved him.

Love was a fickle thing. It came and lingered for a while, then disappeared as if it never was. As if it were only a ghost, unable to find where it belonged. Where it was home.

And yet, he so wished it would stay.

Why was humanity so obsessed with their duties? Why were they so bent on following the rules all the time? Why?

He knew the answer. And hated it.

Without rules, without duties, without balance, the world would fall apart.

He knew from experience.

The Spirit of the Moon had died just a few hours ago. He had not been directly affected by it, but he still sensed the emptiness.

Like the night sky that held no stars or even the moon, he had the same emptiness inside.

Balance.

That was what held everything together.

Like the Ocean and the Moon, ever circling each other in an eternal dance. Tui and La. Push and Pull.

Yin and Yang.

And once again, duties had called her away. This time, for eternity.

The Moon Spirit had given her life.

And in return, she gave hers.

She returned the balance.

She became the moon.

He knew it had to be done. But that did not mean he had to accept it. Knowing something and accepting it is two totally different things.

He had loved her. And despite the fact that he knew their love would be doomed, he could not help but still hope that somehow, they'd be together.

But now they could not be. He was now a mortal, while she was one of the Spirits. Now, not only did the invisible lines that humans carved between them separated them, the invisible lines that the Spirits had carved a long time ago, did too.

The night was silent. The water was silent as it flowed softly on, swiftly and without a care below him. He could see his reflection in it. And above his shoulder, he could see the moon; As if watching over him. Trying to comfort him.

He knew they could never be together in this lifetime. It was impossible. But maybe, perhaps maybe, they could be together in the Spirit World.

Their love had been doomed from the start. But there were always dreams.

He closed his eyes and began to hum a song from the Water Tribe:

Rising softly over the barren land ridden with snow,
Everything is basked in the soft silver light,
Our dreams are held in the embrace of the moon,
Ever reaching for the skies…

Settled in the center of the eternal black sky,
The midnight moon glances down, ever watchful,
The land of snow and ice glimmers without a sound,
Reflecting the ever soft light…

Now reaching the end of the nightly journey,
Shadows softly grow as the dreams fade once again,
Leaving the moon as it disappears behind the horizon,
Leaving a trail of silver light…

Well, there you have it. My first ever drabble. I kinda enjoyed writing it. Hope people enjoyed reading it…

R&R please and thank you.
