Author's Note: I don't own Fruits Basket. This takes place during the short time that Shigure and Mayuko dated. This is written for the Pairing Diversity Boot Camp on Fruits Basket Fanfiction Challenges. #25 -Tears
Mayuko wondered why she had ever agreed to date Shigure, nothing good had ever came from it. She sat across from him, in his living room. She had always had the slight feeling that the only reason he had asked her out was out of pity. She had always liked Hatori, but everyone knew they'd never get together. The biggest reason was that he was dating her best friend, and he had never showed any interest in her.
Shigure lit his cigarette, and continued to work on his manuscript, even though it wasn't due for another month. Mayuko had always been confused by Shigure, he had some of the strangest antics in the world. She sighed, as she felt the tears start to fall down her face. She had wondered why Shigure would pick her, he could easily get just about any woman in the world that he wanted, but he never tried for any serious relationships.
Mayuko was jealous of Kana, but she refused to admit it. Kana had everything that Mayuko had wanted, a good job, a good relationship, and most importantly, happiness.
Mayuko left Shigure's house to get some fresh air, with little acknowledgement from Shigure, who had been waiting for her to break up with him for awhile and would continue to wait. She walked around outside trying to calm down, not wanting to be the one to quit their little twisted game.
