Author's Note: I personally can't stand long author's notes so I'll keep this short. This is my first story so while I'm going to ask you to be nice I do appreciate any and all feedback, even if there's no nice way to say it.
Disclaimer: I'm just a poor American college student and therefore this wonderful universe does not belong to me, but to J.K Rowling. I just like to explore it in my spare time.
Walburga hated children.
There was nothing more obnoxious than children – except perhaps muggles.
Children were noisy and messy and whiney and needy and so she vowed to herself that she would never have children.
Even after she married her second cousin Orion - the only respectable, available pure-blood - she maintained her promise. She had a brother Cygnus who could carry on the family name with his new wife, let him have an army of brats tear apart his house, or she could wait for her other brother Alphard to marry and produce an heir. She, however, would be quite happy to find nothing but silence in the halls of her family home.
But, no, her plans were foiled. Cygnus was so incompetent he couldn't even provide an heir to the Noble and Ancient House of Black; three daughters were all he and that wife of his could manage. Of course, the girls would bring great honour to their family, she could see it now, but they were not male and a male heir was needed to carry on the family name. Alphard never married, the useless lump, and although he became a very successful businessman he had never felt the need to settle down.
Walburga would have to break that promise she had made to herself so many years ago. She would have to have a son.
If she only knew what events she was setting in motion, the dishonour that this child would bring to their name with his Gryffindor sensibilities, she may have chosen to let the family die out right then and there. It would have been preferable to see her line end than give birth to such a son.
But no one can truly know the future; even a seer cannot see all the nuances of what is to come.
And so it was that Sirius Orion Black was born as the heir to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.
