It was hard to imagine life any other way, with the way that things were going currently. Sitting in her apartment, listening to the radio and sketching, Kate leaned back in her chair and deeply listened to the lyrics of the song playing over the air. Looking down at the pad in her lap, she saw the partially done picture, but it was clear who it was meant to be. The figure staring back at her had a blank face but long black pigtails and looming in the background was an intricate cross. Flipping the pages she saw many other drawings that easily depicted others Kate knew, like a funny caricature of McGee slumped over a computer that was blowing smoke and there was a little stick figure meant to be Gibbs that had an angry scowl on its face. Laughing to herself, the phone rang at that moment, startling the brunette. "Hello? " Kate said into the receiver, wondering who could be calling at this hour. Loud music thumped in the background as whoever was on the other line spoke."HEY KATE!! IT'S ABBY! I'M AT THE BLOODY BEETROOTS CONCERT!"

"Okay Abs, that explains the noise, but why are you calling me?"Kate was befuddled, and laughed at her own choice of words. "I CALLED TO SEE IF YOUR'E DOING ANYTHING TONIGHT! THE GROUP I WAS GOING TO GO WITH BAILED ON ME AND I'M LONELY!" Of course, only Abby would call during the middle of a loud, angry concert like this and only Abby could get away with it. Giving herself a minute to think, Kate looked over the pros and cons. Pro- Get to see Abby. Con-Loud concert that would probably disable her hearing for at least a week. Pro-Free tickets and Kate could hardly pass up anything free. Con- She's most likely be surrounded by people who would automatically assume they were on a date."Fine, Abby. Where's the concert? I'll meet you in an hour"

Four Hours Later: The Washington Mall

Kate couldn't believe it, she was at the Washington Mall at two AM and she was having fun. The concert wasn't that bad after all, and though she stood out in her tweedy brown pants and white blouse, nothing could be better than the rush a concert brought. The moon shone off the brick buildings nearby and Kate strolled slowly as Abby pranced up and down next on her right."C'mon Kate don't be a wet blanket, you're so slow!" The Goth said running over to the other woman.

"I'm just admiring the moon and HOW WE ARE ON GOVERNMENT PROPERTY AT TWO AM."

"C'mon loser, let's go to my place. We can get some cheap Chinese food and watch a movie. Won't that be fun?" Abby said, sidling up to Kate.

"Fine. But no horror, I'm not in the mood for screaming and blood. And I'm ordering this time!"

Two Hours Later: Abby's Apartment

"Okay, that was just one strange movie, can't believe we actually watched it!" Abby was laughing as Kate surveyed the room. Boxes of takeout Chinese covered the small black coffee table in Abby's den and the T.V. was playing the credits to some awful romantic comedy they'd rented from the local video store. The two women sat on the black sofa, covered in red and purple fleece blankets laughing their guts out. "I have no idea why people these days love these. They never make sense and they'd never end that way."Kate said, wrapping the red blanket around her shoulders tighter. She was on Abby's couch, in her apartment and everything was a mess. Climbing off the couch Kate picked up the empty boxes and walked over to the kitchen and dumped them into the trash. Walking back over to the couch where Abby was sitting she sat down next to her friend. "Well, what do we do now?" The brunette said to the Goth as the sounds of the street filtered in through the apartment window.

"I guess you're just the person I wanted to be with tonight, Kate. I don't know what I'd do without you."
