Today is my first day of high school. It's nothing special, I've been going to this school since I was 12, 2 years. It's an ordinary school, some might say, I guess it is, but you can never tell.

I live in Anubis house. It's an old house, oldest on the schools property.

I live with 7 other students. Patricia, Mara, Amber, Jerome, Alfie, Mick and Fabian.

When I was walking into school today with Patricia she leaned over and whispered in my ear.

"You fancy him, don't you Joy." Patricia started laughing. Patricia was a bit of a bully. She had dyed red hair, she always wore colored streaks in it. She dressed Goth and got in trouble a lot during lessons.

Patricia is my best friend.

"C'mon Joy admit it." She said again. She was talking about Fabian, she thought I fancied him. She was right.

Fabian with his brown hair and dark eyes.

"Patricia-" I began but then she interrupted.

"Hey look there he is." Patricia teased. Then she waved her arm, gesturing Fabian over. "Hey Fabian!" She yelled.

"Trixie." I hissed. "Why?"

"Because Joy, I felt like it." Patricia shrugged.

"You wanted me Patricia?" Fabian asked.

"Oh, no, not me." Patricia smirked. "Joy did thought. Yeah Joy."

I stood there, unable to talk. I just smiled And walked away.

The thing about Fabian is that, well, I do fancy him.

But I'll never admit it.

Besides…

Fabian isn't…Normal. He's living dead.

I remember the day so clearly, it was like it happened yesterday.

It was the first day at the school.

Me, Patricia, Jerome and Alfie were the first ones to arrive.

Weirdly, we were all on a scholarship.

A few hours later a limo pulled up in the parking lot.

A girl dressed in all pink and glitter hoped out.

Amber.

Then a boy with a football.

Mick.

Then another girl, who had about 10 books in her arms.

Mara.

Hours later after everyone had settled down and we were talking about our interests, Trudy came into the living room and introduced us to Fabian Rutter, who'd just arrived.

Everyone went back to talking.

Everyone but me.

I went to say hello to Fabian.

"Hi, I'm Joy Mercer." I smiled.

Fabian gave me a emotionless stare.

But he then smiled back.

"Do you believe in Vampires?" He asked me.

I laughed. "Silly, Vampires aren't real."

He smiled gently and took my hand.

"How do you know?" He whispered, so coldly, so plain.

I back up.

"Uh, Fabian your scaring me." I said.

He let go of my hand.

"Be careful, Joy," He smirked, showing a hint of his teeth, Sharp teeth. "A vampire could be standing in front of you right now."

He walked off.

Fabians different now, sometimes I think that I may have dreamed that whole scene.

But I remember I didn't.

Every time Fabian smiles.
