When Spidey Senses Lead You Astray

My spidey senses tingled. I was walking down a dark alley way, steam coming from a vent at my right, rats scurrying at my feet. The only thing that felt right was my spidey sense tingling. There was someone in this alley, someone waiting for me. I heard yelling coming from the apartment building to the left. Some couple was having a fight. A cat yelled. A dog barked. I was scared out of my mind, and yet my sidey senses told me to keep going.

The alley ended at a chainlink fence. Beyond it was what looked like some sort of junk yard. There were trash cans and scary noises coming from behind the fence, but I knew I had to go there. A siren in the not so far off distance made me jump three feet in the air. I whirled around, thinking I saw a shadow. Nothing there. I felt around in my pockets. Where was my stun-gun?

Something creeked. I jumped again. Calm down, Stephanie, calm down. Your spidey senses wouldn't let you die, would they? Of course not! They're like my gaurdian angels. Well they sure are idiots.

My hands were getting sweaty. I wished I had a flashlight. I peered into the darkness behind the fence. I had to go. I looked around and spotted a hole in the fence near the bottom. Great.

Kneeling on my hands and knees, I lowered myself to the grimy, disease ridden ground and wiggled under the fence. The moon disappeared behind a cloud and I was thrown into pitch black. I stayed still for a moment and finally stood up slowly, my hands groping in the dark for something substantial to hold onto. Nothing.

I started walking, holding my hands out like a zombie. There weren't any noises except for ominous drips and scratching of rat feet. I stubbed my toe on something hard and bit back an obsenity. The moon appeared again and I looked down, seeing a car door. I looked up again. I was in a junkyard.

My spidey sense was very insistant. "Keep going," it said.

"Fine," I said aloud, to cancel out the silence, "But I'm seriously going to kick your ass when I get home."

I swore I could hear a snicker.

I picked my way through old car parts, oil-slicked tires, and unrecognizable hunks of metal. My spidey senses were going wild. Something was going to happen. I didn't know what, but I knew it was going to be big.

Finally there was some light. It wasn't must, just a little lantern on the ground. I looked past the light to a big, black, double-decker bus. My spidey senses were yelling "Warmer! Warmer! Boiling! Go, go, go!"

I took my time, mentally yelling at the stupid spiders to shut the hell up. My heart was beating a million times a minute as I reached for the glass door. I pushed it open. I took the first step up. At the second step my heart was about to explode. Everything was dark. I couldn't see a thing. Third step. "Light switch!" The spiders yelled in my brain. My hand immediately went to the left and flipped a switch. The lights blazed over a figure standing in the corner. I gasped.

"I KNEW you were Batman! I knew it! I knew it!"

Ranger smiled through the mask and bowed with a vicarious swirl of his cape.

Wait'll I tell Lula.
