In real life, Kuroba Kaito was a coward. He hid his feelings behind a mask of laughter. He could never tell the truth to his childhood friend. Time and again, he wanted to say it to her. However, he backed down whenever he got the chance.
But as Kaito Kid, he could say what he wanted. He could confess to her, but she'd only think of him as Kid the Phantom Thief, the person who steals jewels and always makes a fool out of her dad. No, he wouldn't tell her.
He wouldn't tell her he loved her as Kaito Kid nor as Kuroba Kaito. Not until he finds Pandora. Till then, he'd hold it off. But he wasn't sure if Aoko could wait for him that long.
"Wait for me." He had said one day. She looked at him in confusion.
"What do you mean?" She had asked in return. Kaito shook his head as he grinned, slipping into his poker face.
"It's nothing."
"Okay." Aoko faced the front again as they walked home. Kaito sighed.
"But you know, if I were ever to…I don't know, go missing or something? Will you wait?"
Aoko looked back at him. "I don't understand what you're trying to say, Kaito."
"Nah, you don't have to mind me. I'm just spouting out weird stuff." He said hurriedly. His childhood friend raised an eyebrow and turned away.
"If you don't ever come home, I'm going kill you." She said.
Kaito looked at her and smiled gently. So she'd wait for him.
But could she handle the truth? Could she handle the fact that her bestfriend was actually the phantom thief?
Well, that could wait.
