Gellert walked into the smoky village with his men. There was something here he wanted. Someone who'd gotten in his way.
He jumped as a child ran into him. She, he guessed, looked up at him and he could see the terror she was feeling. She coughed, trying to cover her mouth and nose with her jumper sleeve.
"Holly!" a voice called "Holly!"
The girl looked around desperately.
"Are you Holly?" he asked her. She nodded. "Your mother?" he guessed. She nodded again and coughed. "Where will she be?" It was impossible to tell directions in the magical smoke and Gellert couldn't tell where the woman's voice was coming from.
Holly shook her head, then, to Gellert's confusion, made the shape of a cross with her arms.
"The church?"
She nodded. Frowning as he considered options he held out the hand that wasn't holding his wand. Holly took it and followed as he walked through the smoke.
A minute or so later the smoke cleared. Gellert and Holly were standing on one side of a market square, across from them he could see Albus.
"Holly!" A woman ran to them. Gellert released Holly and she hugged the woman. Gellert looked back at Albus but was distracted by movements from Holly. She was signing something to what was presumably her mother.
"No Holly." She disagreed.
Holly made the signs again, gesturing at the church.
"No Holly. Come on out of the way." She ushered Holly away into the church.
Later when Gellert was lying still under the petrifying charm he saw someone crouch next to him and switch his wand for another.
"Holly!"
The person left.
